"Meditation & Prayer" (A must read)
Many people ask me what the difference between meditation and prayer is.
Prayer comes in so many words, religions, emotions, shapes (yes, shapes) and sizes. People send prayers every day, night, afternoon, morning. It happens before work, before school exams, before starting a new job, after a break up, before a round of golf or any sport. It may also be an intention. We see people sign themselves often before these significant moments in their lives. It could be the Christian sign of the cross, or both hands held together like an antenna sending their prayer or intention upwards and outwards. People ask for help, guidance, for their relationships to return to normal, for their passed loved ones to return to heaven and be safe. People even pray for thanks, gratitude and just to say hello to source. We congregate to pray, we pray for forgiveness, we pray for health. We see the symbolic kneeling by the bedside, just before bed praying for what we have held deep inside our hearts. The stopping mid walk to ask, to pray. That feeling inside that we need answers to. Taking that moment, just you and your prayer to God, source or whoever you need to speak to. Ask the questions and wait for the answers.
This is where so much has been forgotten. The world stops to pray. The world is constantly asking.
Everyone is constantly asking. But how does one get the answers they are asking questions for by constantly asking?
Take this moment. Take one minute right now and ask, pray. Create an awareness of yourself praying, asking away at what is in your heart right now. Then think about what you would normally do next. If you’re almost in bed, you might have just kneeled and prayed. Did you get up and go to bed right after? Did you instantly check your phone? Did you pull the blankets up over your head and closed your eyes ready to take on another night of slumber?
“Did you forget about your prayer?” Who did you leave your prayer with? And how do you think your prayer will be answered?
With all the praying we have around the world, people have a tendency to ask and an expectation that their answer will just pop up right in front of them out of thin air. And what makes it more is that people walk away believing that because they didn’t get this pop up answer, their prayers or their questions haven’t been answered. How can they? How can anything be answered if all people do is ask? Talk Talk Talk!
Now think of this. You’re in class, its grade 4. You’re doing multiplication. Your teacher asks the question. “What is 3 multiplied by 3?” hands go up, the room goes into a frenzy, everyone wants to answer. They know what it is. But they cant answer. What is the teacher doing? Imagine for a second that the teacher keeps asking the question over and over.
“What is 3 multiplied by 3?”
“What is 3 multiplied by 3?”
“What is 3 multiplied by 3?”
How can the students answer the question? They can’t! There is no space, no pause, no silence.
But if only the teacher had asked, and then taken a moment of silence, he allows the answer to come to him.
This is like meditation in prayer. Silence. You have asked the question, prayed, looked for a way. But you can’t get an answer if you keep talking, asking and then not focusing on who you asked the question to or kept the silence within yourself, pondering on the question or prayer at hand.
Imagine this. You see a friend and then ask them a question and instantly walk away or change subject or do something different. You won’t get your answer. The same goes with prayer.
We meditate to look within. To look for the answer to a prayer. It may be a small sign. It may be a loud roar. But the more we listen, the more we will find within us the awareness we are searching for.
Meditation answers so much. It clears so much. And sometimes you don’t even have to ask. The universe knows what to show you when it needs to.
Next time you pray, take a few moments afterwards to sit in silence. Close your eyes, breathe. Be one with yourself. Listen to what source may want to show you, what God may want to tell you. Just listen. Because listening may show you the answers you may have needed all this time.
Prayers = Asking
Meditation = Listening (Receiving)
I will be holding guided meditations this year. Message me for any details or questions.
It’s a beautiful way to find your inner peace. And yes, you can meditate, everyone can, everyone does!
