Hi, I'm Arifa, a Childhood Educator at WEEC, currently working towards my Certificate III. I find it so rewarding to work with children every day and to help them play and learn at the same time.

I wanted to work in an environment where children feel safe to explore, discover and express themselves. Every day brings new conversations and new interests to learn about, and I love collaborating with families to recognise and build on each child's strengths.

My favourite hobby is cooking for friends, trying new recipes and sharing slow conversations around the table.

Road safety is one of the most important lessons we teach children, and it starts with us.

Young children are still learning to judge speed, distance and danger, which is why road safety education needs to begin early and be reinforced by the adults around them. At our centres, educators bring this to life through stories, role play, music, outdoor activities and supervised walks, helping children understand road signs, pedestrian safety and the importance of staying close to a trusted adult.

We also invite road safety professionals to visit each year and offer families the chance to have their child's car seat checked in the community.

And in our car parks, we ask all families and visitors to hold their child's hand, put phones away, and take extra care when moving or reversing a vehicle. Driveways and car parks are especially hazardous for young children, so a little extra care goes a long way.

This year, National Child Protection Week will continue to champion the message ‘Every conversation matters: Shifting conversation to action’. This message captures the essence of National Child Protection Week, which aims to promote a safe and supported life for every child, now and into the future.

Therefore, this year, we are calling all Australians to start a new conversation and keep our children safe.

Wishing all our wonderful families a Happy Father's Day today.

Meet Aruna, a Diploma educator at Westmead Early Education Centre.

Aruna has been part of the WEEC community for nearly a year, bringing experience from her time as a casual educator across WEEC and NEEC. For her, it's a privilege to grow alongside the children, families, and staff she works with every day.

She's passionate about giving every child the love, education, and safety they deserve, with a hands-on approach that lets them explore, discover, and use their imagination while their individual beliefs and culture are respected along the way.

Want to know more about her journey so far, and her favourite cuisine to share around the table?

Tiny steps that really count 🌱

At Sydney Early Education Centres, sustainability is part of our daily program, not just a special topic.

Our children help grow and harvest vegetables, sort recycling, care for our chickens, and use water-saving sensor taps, all while building lifelong habits of care and respect for the world around them.

We'd love for you to see how these small, everyday moments are shaping the next generation of environmentally conscious thinkers.

When children go from calm to overwhelmed in what feels like seconds, it's easy to miss what was building underneath.

In our latest blog, child and adolescent psychologist Sarah Conway of shares how to recognise the early warning signs of overwhelm in young children — and how a small shift in response can make a real difference.

It's a genuinely useful read for any parent navigating big emotions at home.

Hi, I'm Kalpna, Chef at Westmead Early Education Centre.

I love creating nutritious, exciting meals for the children here, and one of my favourite parts of the job is chatting with them about what's on the menu. Their curiosity and enthusiasm around food genuinely inspires me every day.

I'm proud to lead our Healthy Munch & Move Program, where I work with children to build positive relationships with food in a fun, engaging way.

I believe the habits and experiences children develop early around food really do last a lifetime.

Being part of the WEEC community means a lot to me, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to it every day.

Winter is the perfect excuse to bake something that tastes like summer. 🥭

This Mango and Coconut Slice is a reliable bake that children and adults love equally.

It's soft, golden and made with a flavour combo that was simply made for each other.

It serves twelve, travels well and is straightforward enough to make with children involved.

Whether you're baking for a weekend playdate or just looking for something fun to do on a cold afternoon, this one is worth making.
