Year 6 and K-6M students had a fantastic day at the University of Wollongong Science Space, enjoying a range of hands-on and engaging learning experiences. Students explored the planetarium, built LEGO bridges in the STEM Challenge Room, watched an exciting science show, and tested their skills with a variety of interactive science challenges. It was a fun-filled day that inspired curiosity, creativity, and a love of science.

On Mondays, year 6 students have been attending library lessons to study their Key Learning Area of HSIE with Mrs Mehanna. Last term, the students learnt about sustainability, environmental management of world heritage areas, and cultural obligations to Country. Students studied the Great Barrier Reef to understand its ecological significance as a world heritage site and created posters to inform people about how to care for, protect and conserve this special place in Australia for future generations.

This term students are learning about Aboriginal Languages and how they were impacted by colonial interactions, using a variety of sources as evidence. They will also be examining the significance of revitalising such languages.

6A have been studying the history of the loss of Aboriginal languages and revitalisation programs aimed to restore the lost languages and culture.

6A visited Mrs Leverett's Kindergarten class. They enjoyed helping kindergarten and participated in cultural singing and phonics lessons.

KA has been full of energy the past couple of weeks. We’ve been learning to read the time, building our writing skills and working together in Maths. A highlight was getting outside for NRL with the Bulldogs, where the students had fun practising their running, passing and teamwork. A great week of learning, movement and lots of smiles!

In Year 3 HSIE library lessons, our students explored the ancient communication systems used by the Maya, Aztec, and Inca. They discovered how these civilisations used symbols, pictures, knots, and calendars to record stories and keep track of time.

Today, we use emojis, books, charts, and calendars—ideas inspired by those ancient systems. Our students compared these then-and-now communication methods and practiced writing sentences explaining these connections.

It’s exciting to see how ideas from thousands of years ago still help us share information today.
