Discovering Violin Bows

Ever wondered what makes your violin bow special? Here's a mini-guide:

Violin bows can be crafted from wood (like Brazilwood) or synthetic materials, each influencing your music's tone in its own way.

Beginner's Bow Care:

▪️Tighten the horsehair before playing.
▪️Loosen the horsehair before you put the violin and bow back in the case.
▪️Apply rosin for a clear, vibrant sound.
▪️Wipe the stick gently with a soft cloth to keep it happy.

Choosing the right violin for yourself can be overwhelming, but here are some tips to help you make an informed decision:

▪️Essential Equipment: For your first violin lesson, you will need a violin, bow, rosin, shoulder rest, and a spare set of strings.

▪️If you are an adult beginner, you'll typically require a 4/4 size violin and an appropriate bow.

▪️Purchase Options: Beginner violin sets are available on platforms like Amazon, eBay, and others, with prices starting at A$200. Pay close attention to what is included in the set, as shoulder rests are often not included and may need to be purchased separately. Additional accessories will be discussed in future posts.

▪️Professional Adjustment: It's advisable to purchase an instrument that has been professionally adjusted and inspected. A poorly adjusted or uninspected instrument can lead to ongoing costs and potentially hinder your technique.

▪️Consider Renting: If you're uncertain about making a purchase, you can explore rental options. There are numerous places in Australia where you can rent a violin. Feel free to send me a direct message, and I can assist you in finding rental options in your city.

Choosing the right violin is an important step in your musical journey, and it's worth taking the time to make an informed choice.

I enjoy teaching kids (I'm also a mom to a 5-year-old daughter). I strive to make lessons both fun and productive. In addition to teaching the violin, I try to show kids how exciting and touching classical music can be. Additionally, I introduce them to music theory.

Hello! I'm Marina, a professional violinist and violin tutor.

Music has been a part of my life since birth, thanks to my family of professional musicians. I've been playing the violin for 28 years. After graduating from Petrozavodsk State Conservatory, I recieved a specialization "Concert performer, orchestra artist, ensemble artist, teacher." Since then, I've been focused on a career in music, particularly in symphony orchestras and international projects. I've had the privilege of being a part of esteemed symphony orchestras in St. Petersburg. My musical journey has taken me to various international orchestra projects in England, Italy, Norway, and Finland.

In 2014, I decided to share my passion and expertise by teaching students. Over the years, I've gained a ton of teaching experience, working with students aged 6 to 55, from total beginners to advanced players. Whether online or in person, I take great pride in nurturing my students' musical growth and fostering their love for art.

Currently, I live in Sydney, Australia, where I continue my teaching practice. I'm thrilled to work online with my long-time students who've been with me for many years, as well as working offline with my new students in Sydney.
I'm really looking forward to meeting my new students here!
