This past month has been incredibly emotional for many families, participants and providers within the disability community.

At Unity Studios, we are hearing fear, uncertainty and anxiety about what the proposed NDIS reforms may mean for the future.

We want to say this clearly:
People living with disability deserve more than survival.

They deserve:
✨ belonging
✨ community
✨ opportunity
✨ dignity
✨ meaningful inclusion

Over the years we’ve watched our Uability participants within our mainstream programming:
💛 build friendships
💛 develop confidence
💛 improve emotional regulation
💛 explore new opportunities
💛 engage with the community
💛 and discover hope for their future.

These supports are not “just social activities.”

They are life-changing Capacity Building supports.

Australia has spent decades moving away from segregation and toward inclusion.

The NDIS has helped many people with disability become active participants in their communities rather than being excluded from them.

We must be careful not to unintentionally rebuild the social walls that the NDIS helped dismantle.

At Unity Studios, inclusion has always been at the centre of what we do. We will continue advocating for our Uability participants, families and the broader disability community as these reforms are considered.

We encourage everyone to:
• stay informed
• contact local MPs
• participate respectfully in consultation processes
• and continue advocating for inclusion, dignity and choice.

Inclusion is expensive.

But exclusion costs society more.

This image represents the difference between access, equality, equity and true inclusion within society.

For many people living with disability, meaningful community participation is not simply about being physically present - it often requires the right support, adjustments and opportunities to participate safely, confidently and independently.

The NDIS has helped many Australians move from isolation, toward greater inclusion and participation within their communities. While no system is perfect, supports that build confidence, communication, emotional regulation and independence can create real long-term outcomes for individuals, families and the broader community.

The final panel, “Liberation,” is not intended to represent a perfect or unrealistic world. Rather, it reflects an ongoing goal: creating communities where barriers to participation are reduced as much as possible, and where people living with disability are supported to engage meaningfully in everyday Australian life alongside everyone else.

I believe it is critically important that decision makers including Melissa McIntosh MP and Mark Butler MP continue listening carefully to participants, families and frontline providers as these reforms are considered.
