AM I TOO OLD TO LEARN TO SING?

Each and every human is born with a right to be educated irrespective of his or her age. Study is a thing which can be done without no age limit independently, for example children have the right to go to school and there is another programme for adults to recieve education, ie adult education.

Age is no bar for study because learning has no age limits. You keep learning things from the time you are born. First you learn walking, then speaking and then writing.

The phases of life include learning at every stage. The myth that only children can study is not true. People can get educated at any age.

It is not only academic education, maybe learning to swim, ride a bicycle or SING. If you have rushed your childhood dreams and the hobby you always wanted to execute or practice is in your head, YOU CAN DO IT NOW.

Failing to warm up your voice can result in damage and will only hinder your progress in the long run.

Here are some more things you can do to keep your vocal technique in top condition.

PLEASE DO!!!

✔️Stay hydrated, drink plenty of water.
✔️Avoid stress and stay relaxed, especially as you’re leading up to a performance.
✔️Eat a well balanced and healthy diet
✔️Get plenty of sleep and rest
✔️Train with a qualified teacher regularly.
✔️Speak at a normal volume and comfortable pitch
✔️Practice in the “right way” daily.
✔️Seek medical advice if you have prolonged hoarseness.
✔️Gently “walk” through new songs when you are first learning them.
✔️Keep your voice at a comfortable “Speech Level” at all times when singing
✔️Warm-up properly before trying to sing with a lot of power or volume

PLEASE DON’T!!!!

❌Belt or shout songs or force your voice in any way.
❌Cough excessively and clear your throat continually.
❌Consume dairy products, citrus fruits/juice, fizzy drinks, coffee or alcohol on or before the day of a performance.
❌Smoke.
❌Talk a lot on the day of a performance.
❌Try to sing with a bad cold/flu or laryngitis.
❌Try to sing if it hurts or feels difficult in any way.
❌Try to talk or shout over loud noise
❌Whisper loudly or sing in a “breathy” voice.
❌Scream.
❌Try to change your natural speaking or singing voice

I would pick practice over talent all day.

In my experience and observation, the people who succeed in music (and most other skills) just really love what they’re doing. They’re the people who are constantly humming along with the radio, who keep signing up for more choirs despite barely having time in the day, the people you catch writing song lyrics on any random scrap of paper they can find.

It’s not because they’re inherently talented, but because they find themselves investing a lot of their time and attention to singing, even if they don’t realize they are practicing. If you keep thinking about something and doing something, you will naturally gain skill at it.

That said, if the energy you spend is not efficient, or is going toward bad habits, you don’t necessarily get better. And it’s true that for a variety of reasons, some people seem better able to spend their energy efficiently, and avoid bad habits, more than others.
