Helping you manage diabetes during Ramadan.

Planning to fast during Ramadan while managing diabetes? It’s essential to understand the potential risks and prepare ahead to protect your health.

Key Tips for a Healthy Ramadan:
👉🏻Assess Your Risk: Fasting may cause blood glucose fluctuations, dehydration, or complications. Consult your doctor to see if it’s safe for you.
👉🏻Pre-Ramadan Check-Up: Review your medications, insulin regimen, and learn how to manage hypos and high BGLs. Never stop taking your insulin — adjust timing and doses with medical advice.
👉🏻Monitor Regularly: Check your BGLs often, especially if using insulin or sulfonylureas. Testing your BGL does not break your fast.
👉🏻Smart Eating Habits: Choose complex carbs, lean proteins, and plenty of fluids. Break your fast gradually and avoid overeating.
👉🏻Stay Active Safely: Light exercise is fine, but avoid intense activity close to iftar to prevent hypos.
👉🏻Insulin Adjustments: Doses may need modification during Ramadan. Always seek personalised advice from your healthcare provider.

Your safety comes first — fasting is a personal decision, and with the right support, you can honour your spiritual practice without compromising your health.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever told someone you’re blood sugar was low and they responded with “can’t you just take some insulin?” 🥴 in all seriousness tho, I’ve found that most times, people who don’t have diabetes typically don’t know or understand the difference between high and low blood sugars, and don’t really know how we feel or exactly what we need-unless we educate them! What is your number one symptom for being high/low? When I’m high I am DEFINITELY irritable, and when I’m low my mind gets super foggy!
