Pen Pals! In 2025, we have decided to take on pen pal with a centre in Riverwood!
What is Pen Pal?
Pen pal childcare is a program that pairs children with pen pals in other countries or communities, allowing them to write letters and make new friends.
Benefits of Pen Pal:
- Learn about other cultures: Children can learn about different ways of life and traditions.
- Improve communication skills: Children can practice writing letters and learn about international mail.
- Make new friends: Children can form friendships that last a lifetime.
- Develop social skills: Children can learn to be curious and consider other perspectives.
This closely links to Quality Area 6 - Collaborative partnerships with communities.
This quality area recognises that collaborative relationships with communities are fundamental to achieve quality outcomes for children and community partnerships based on active communication, consultation and collaboration.
This also extends on the following EYLF outcomes:
Outcome 2.1 - Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation
Outcome 4.1 - Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity
Outcome 5.1 - Children interact verbally and non-verbally with others for a range of purposes
