National Reconciliation Week 2025

Intentional learning: Autumn

This week, the children have been learning about the changing seasons and Autumn.

🍂 they read books about seasons.
🍂 invitation to play: using natural resources and autumn colours with nature loose parts, crispy autumn leaves, magnifying glass and paper for their observations.
🍂 the children held the leaves, inspected them up close with magnifying glass and made observations. I encouraged them to ‘write’ these observations down on paper, to learn different ways to record observations and showcase their learning.
🍂 art and craft: the children created leaf rubbings by placing a leaf underneath their paper and colouring over it ( sustainable practise)
🍂 autumn themed play dough: we made a fresh batch of play dough. To it we added autumn spices as loose parts: star anise, black cardomom, cinnamon sticks and cloves. The aroma of the fragrant spices, the feeling of warm sun on their backs and smooth play dough between their fingers made for a multi sensory experience. Even our youngest learners were able to participate as I placed a few large spices into the dough, encouraging them to dig for it with their fingers.

Valentines Day themed language and literacy:

The children engaged in recognising and matching letters, along with adding the sounds to the letters. We read a book: ‘Things I love about Friends’, discussing on what friendship meant and how to be a good friend.

Throughout the day, the children engaged in printing with sustainable items from around the service to turn into Valentines collage and practiced showing love and friendship to their peers 🥰

First day of care in 2025!

Our little learners joined us today after a month of holidays. We spent the time re connecting, sharing travel tales and the children spent time exploring the new learning environment.

Looking forward to a great year of exploration, discovery and growth 🌻
