I’ve had such a wonderful time meeting a range of teams in recent months, supporting them to not only learn strategies to notice and tune in to their responses; but also learn practical somatic based tools to attend to the natural, adaptive stress responses of their nervous system.
My approach to these conversations is not to make-invisible or minimise the contexts of injustice that practitioners and practice leaders work; in fact the opposite. Rather to notice and honour the full experience of bearing witness to, and responding to injustices; and creating - enough space - within ourselves and together in order to make choices about how we respond and can tap into our innate strengths to sustain ourselves and each other in the face of it all.
Honouring the deep ancient, Indigenous knowledges that inform these practices that have now only been ‘legitimized’ in Eurocentric spaces through more contemporary neuroscience.

Heard about EMDR but not quite sure what’s involved? This is a useful infographic that outlines the key concepts and processes.
It’s a powerful, well evidenced approach to recovery, founded on the deep belief that we all innately have the capacity to heal.

Support for Victims of Crime
Access to recovery and justice for victim-survivors of violence (in all its nuanced forms) is something that drives me and it is a major part of my decision to return back into clinical work from macro practice.
My clinical framework for the healing and recovery journey has three core elements 🍃
1️⃣ EMDR to tap into the persons’ innate ability to heal by supporting the processing of traumatic experiences.
2️⃣ Response Based Practice to identify and reveal all the ways in which they resisted (and continue to resist) the violence and transgressions of power; and the uncovering of ways in which a persons’ resistance can be demonised and undermined by others (as well as systems).
3️⃣ Somatic practices to rebalance the nervous system after the chronic state of stress/terror and build nervous system resilience so that they can feel and be more comfortable, healthy and open.
All of this is underpinned 〰️ with a trauma informed and social justice oriented approach.

A new year brings opportunity for fresh perspectives about how you want to proceed.
The Scaffold of Solidarity and Self Support (SSSS) is both a supervisory tool and approach I developed for wellbeing planning, after many years drawing on a variety of methods and research in supervisory practices.
The scaffold represents the elements that are fundamental to platforming an individuals’ wellbeing and practice quality. It recognises that two equal and solid pillars are needed for a stable structure - solidarity through the connection with allies and supports; and practices and behaviours to support the self.
The diagonal segments reflect the interconnections, as well as the organizational and systemic contexts that influence our primary pillars.
Take a moment to reflect:
Who do you have and need to give you solidarity and connection in this work?
What practices, learning and behaviours do you need to continue or put in place to stay (or seek) healthy and capable?
What contexts will help or challenge this?
Reach out if you would like support to navigate, develop or implement your scaffold 🤝
