What if teaching piano could become the career you’ve always wanted it to be? 🎹

For years, Lorraine kept her day job and taught piano on the side.

She loved teaching, but making it her full-time career felt like a big leap.

Then she discovered group piano teaching, and things started to change. ✨

After completing Group Piano University, Lorraine began growing her studio with a new approach.

In May, she finally handed in her notice at work.

She had around 50 students at the time. Just four months later, she was teaching almost 80, with more classes on the way! 🎹

And now? She’s dreaming of opening her own dedicated music school. ❤️

What I love about Lorraine’s story is that she didn’t wait until everything was perfect.

She started with what she had, learned along the way, and kept going.

Imagine being told that you can’t make a proper job out of teaching piano.

Now, Lorraine has almost 80 students. Sounds like a real career to me!

Lorraine learned piano herself in a shared lesson as a child - a few minutes of teacher time while everyone else sat with headphones on.

She knew there had to be a better way.

She found group piano and enrolled in Group Piano University. 🎹

And on the 1st of May this year, she handed in her notice at her day job and went all in.

Four months later, she has four new classes. ✨

She loves watching what group piano does for kids and their families.

That is the whole point. That is why we do this.

The “right” space can easily become the reason you keep waiting.

You tell yourself you’ll start when you have a proper studio, more keyboards, a bigger room or a setup that looks more professional.

But your first teaching space doesn’t need to be your forever space.

Victoria started in a church hall that was only available on Thursdays. When families began asking for Saturday lessons, she rearranged her family room every Friday night and turned it into a teaching space.

Akera pushed back the furniture in her lounge room and squeezed in four keyboards.

Neither had everything perfectly figured out. They simply worked with what they had - and that gave them the experience, confidence and momentum to grow.

Sometimes the space you begin with isn’t the limitation.

Waiting for everything to be perfect is. 🙂

Movement can completely change what happens in a piano lesson.

When students clap a rhythm, walk the beat, sing a phrase or physically explore a musical idea, they’re doing more than having fun.

They’re building an understanding of the music before asking their fingers to play it.

And yet, so many piano teachers tell me they want to use more movement in their teaching but they haven’t been shown how to do it confidently or purposefully.

That’s what we’ll explore in **Off the Bench: The Active Piano Studio**. 🎹

I’ll be sharing my favourite tried-and-tested activities from more than 30 years of teaching - practical ideas you can take home and use in your very next lesson. ✨

When a student loses interest in piano, it rarely happens all at once.

You start to notice the signs. They’re less excited to come in, harder to keep focused and not practising as much between lessons.

That’s why I’m a big believer in getting students off the bench and involving them in the music—through movement, listening, games and activities that make the learning stick.

In my upcoming workshop, Off the Bench: The Active Piano Studio, I’ll show you practical ways to do this in your own lessons.

Nothing complicated—just useful ideas you can try with your students straight away.
