5 mistakes that are quietly killing your writing scores:
1️⃣ No planning β€” 2 minutes of planning beats 15 minutes of rambling. Every time.
2️⃣ Boring words β€” "Very sad" is forgettable. "Grief at its heels" hits different.
3️⃣ Same-length sentences β€” Short sentences punch. Long sentences build atmosphere. Mix them.
4️⃣ Drifting off the prompt β€” A masterpiece that doesn't answer the question still scores zero.
5️⃣ No review β€” Two minutes of checking catches the mistakes that cost you marks.
Fix these five. Watch your scores change. πŸ’―
Save this for your next exam. πŸ“Œ

They were young. Many were students β€” not much older than the kids we teach every day.

This Anzac Day, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and mateship of those who gave everything so future generations could have the freedom to learn, to grow, and to build a better life.

We believe education is one of the greatest gifts a free society can offer. Today, we don't take that for granted.

Lest We Forget.

Mandela read in a prison cell. And walked out ready to lead a nation.

That's what books do β€” they don't wait for the right circumstances. They create them.
This World Book Day, if you're looking for your next read β€” or looking for one to put in your child's hands β€” here are three that will genuinely change the way they think:

1. Factfulness by Hans Rosling β€” because the world is better than the news suggests, and data will prove it.
2. Ikigai by HΓ©ctor GarcΓa β€” because purpose isn't found, it's built.
3. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho β€” sometimes you just need a story, not a strategy.

UYGW believes the best students aren't just textbook smart β€” they're curious, well-read, and hungry to understand the world beyond the syllabus.

Read more. Think more. Grow more.
Happy World Book Day, Sydney!

The greatest thing we can give this planet isn't just cleaner air or greener cities β€” it's smarter, more curious, more conscious young minds.
Every student we teach, every question we encourage, every "aha!" moment in a session β€” that's how we invest in the future. Because an educated generation is the earth's greatest renewable resource.

The earth recycles. The earth renews. The earth never stops growing.
Neither should your child.

Happy Earth Day, Sydney!

Plot twist: your English essay isn't a book report.

If your response sounds like a summary of what happened β€” congratulations, you've just retold the story. Your marker has already read it. They don't need a recap.

What they're actually looking for? Analysis. The why. The so what. The bit that shows you didn't just read the text β€” you understood it.

Here's the formula that changes everything:
Identify the technique β†’ Explain the meaning β†’ Unpack the effect on the reader.
That's not just good English. That's Band 6 English.
The best part? Unlike the plot of your set text β€” this actually has a happy ending. It's a skill. It can be learnt. And we teach it every day.

Save this. Share it with every Year 11 and 12 student you know. Their marks will do the talking.

Most students think Algebra is about memorising rules. It's not.

Algebra is about one thing β€” balance. Every equation is a scale, and your job is simply to keep both sides equal. That's it. No magic. No mystery. Just logic.

Swipe through to see how one simple idea can make solving for x feel effortless β€” even for students who've always struggled with maths.

Save this post for your next study session and share it with someone who needs to see this!

Want your child to actually understand maths instead of just memorising formulas? That's exactly what we do at UYGW.

*Can you say everything in just 17 syllables?*

Happy Haiku Day!

We’ll let the poetry do the talking β€”
Three lines, seventeen,
The whole world said in haiku β€”
Try that in maths class. :)

Some things are better expressed in words πŸ˜‰

At UYGW, we believe learning should feel less like a test and more like discovering your own voice β€” whether that’s through words, numbers, music, or sport.

So go ahead, write a haiku today and drop it in the comments β€” we’d love to read it.

Happy World Health Day!

A healthy body and a healthy mind go hand in hand β€” and at UYGW Education, we believe true growth isn't just academic. It's physical, mental, and emotional too.

This World Health Day, let's remind our kids that taking care of themselves is just as important as acing that exam. Because when you feel good, you perform better β€” in the classroom and in life.

Here's to raising well-rounded, healthy, and happy young minds. Wishing you and your family a wonderful World Health Day from all of us at UYGW!

One word swap. Two band levels.

If your child is still writing "the author shows" in their English analysis β€” this is the sign to level up. Markers aren't just looking for what you say, they're looking for HOW you say it.

High modality verbs like "excoriates," "accentuates," or "scrutinises" signal to your marker that you truly understand the composer's tone and intent β€” and THAT is what separates a Band 4 from a Band 6.

Save this post and use it in your next essay. Your marks will thank you.

Stop assuming "Peak" means "Stop."

Most students see a projectile reach its maximum height and think: "The velocity is zero." This one assumption is a 3-mark trap waiting to happen in your HSC Physics exam.

The Genius Logic: Vertical Velocity (Vy): Yes, at the peak, Vy = 0. The object has momentarily stopped its upward climb before gravity pulls it back down.
β€’ Horizontal Velocity (Vx): This remains constant. Gravity only acts vertically. If the ball had zero total velocity at the peak, it would simply drop straight down like a stone.

The Exam Trap: Examiners love asking for the "total velocity at the peak." If you write "0," you lose the marks. The correct answer is always your initial horizontal component (u (cos a)).

At UYGW, we simplify what schools complicate. We don't just give you formulas; we give you the logic to dominate the rubric.

Water is nature’s ultimate thermostat.

Ever wondered why the sand burns your feet while the ocean stays cool under the exact same sun? It isn't just luckβ€”it is a fundamental law of HSC Science.

The Specific Heat Secret: 4.18 J/g/K

Water has a remarkably high Specific Heat Capacity. This means it takes a massive amount of energy to raise its temperature even by one degree. While the sand's temperature sky-rockets instantly, water resists that change, acting as a natural buffer for our environment.

CALCULATION TRAP AHEAD!

In your exams, this value is the "make or break" for thermochemistry questions. Forget to use 4.18 correctly in your q=mc\T equations, and your marks will vanish.

At UYGW, we simplify what schools complicate so you walk into the exam room with total confidence. Master the logic, master the exam.
