The Hairpin Banksia, or Banksia spinulosa, like most Banksia species, flowers during the cooler months of the year. In the morning, after rain, all sorts of birds and insects can be seen enjoying the nectar produced by the flowers. This is the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo, or Calyptorhynchus funereus. It’s the largest parrot found in the Sydney area. It’s favourite foods are casuarina and banksia seed, where this cockatoo has been photographed. It’s said that rain often follows these majestic birds. The merriment of the Laughing Kookaburra, or Dacelo novaeguineae, just before sunrise and sunset, can be heard throughout Eastern and South Western Australia. The Acacia terminalis, or Sunshine Wattle, is currently in bloom throughout Sydney and the South Eastern Coast of Australia. It indicators that the days are slowly getting longer and the more temperate, warmer weather will be here soon. Edible witchetty grubs can be found in it's branches.
