It won’t take you long as a new parent to learn that baby sleep is constantly changing. You think youve nailed a solid routine and then BAM! your child is protesting sleep. We wish their was a magic wand to safe guard your little ones sleep forever but the reality is there are SO many factors that affect children’s sleep along the way. It’s normal and (sorry to say) largely unavoidable.
If your child who was once a great sleeper is suddenly protesting naps, waking frequently overnight, screaming at bedtime or doing anything outside of their normal predictable routine it’s likely one of these reasons:
⚠️Regressions, teething, illness, travel, separation anxiety, developmental, solids introduction, household changes, nap transitions, growth spurts, straying daycare, night terrors, toddler bed
First up, don’t panic! They have NOT forgotten how to sleep. They simply need your support in helping them through this blip where they will return to beautiful sleep once again.
Top tip: Stay consistent with your routine and approach as much as possible (whatever you were doing before that worked so well for you) as introducing a variety of new sleep associations and changes during these spells in panic can derail their sleep even more, and for even longer.
