π Dreaming of living and working in Australia? π
Below are the general steps to apply for the Australian General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas: Subclass 189, Subclass 190, and Subclass 491.
π― Step 1: Check if your occupation is on the Australian Skilled Occupation Lists! π
Check if your occupation is on the relevant Skilled Occupation Lists (MLTSSL or STSOL) for the visa subclass you are interested in from the link: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skill-occupation-list
π Step 2: Get your skill assessment ! π
Obtain a skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for your occupation. This step confirms that your qualifications and experience meet Australian standards for your occupation. There are a number of skill assessing bodies in Australia like Engineer Australia or Vetassess, being the largest Skill assessing body of Australia. One can check his/her Assessing body from the following link: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/skills-assessment
π£οΈ Step 3: English Language Proficiency
Take an English language test (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic) and achieve the required minimum score for the visa subclass you are applying for. Generally PTE is considered easier than all other English tests for Australian GSM.
Note: Some skill assessing bodies like Engineer Australia also demand Competent English for Skill assessment.
π Step 4: Expression of Interest (EOI) πΌ
Create an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the online system SkillSelect. Provide information about your skills, qualifications, work experience, English proficiency, and other relevant details.
Specify the visa subclass (189, 190, or 491) you are interested in.
πStep 5: Points Calculation and Invitation π
Your EOI will be ranked based on your points score. If your points score is high enough and your occupation is in demand, you may receive an invitation to apply for the visa.
πΌStep 6: State/Territory Nomination (Subclass 190 and Subclass 491) ποΈ
If you are applying for Subclass 190 or Subclass 491, you need to be nominated by a state or territory government agency.
Check the specific state or territory's requirements and submit an application for nomination.
π Step 7: Visa Application π
Once you receive an invitation, you can proceed to lodge your visa application within the specified timeframe. Gather all necessary documents, including your skills assessment, English language test results, health examinations, police clearance certificates, and other supporting evidence.
Submit your visa application online through the Department of Home Affairs' website.
π Step 8: Visa Processing and Decision
Wait for the Department of Home Affairs to process your application. The processing time may vary depending on the visa subclass and individual circumstances.
πStep 9: Visa Grant
If your application is approved, you will receive a visa grant notification. Carefully read the visa grant letter, which will outline the conditions and validity of your visa.
π Step 10: Travel to Australia and Start Your Journey
Once your visa is granted, you can travel to Australia and start your new life as a skilled migrant.
