Another amazing meal at Fuel by Night with our friend Kes visiting from Melbourne.
This snapper with ginger and finger lime was a standout.

šŸŽ„ Turn the sound on for this one. The sound of kids discovering food can be fun.

This is what happens when food becomes a fun experiment - not a lecture, not a rule, not another thing children are told they ā€œshouldā€ eat.

You wouldn't believe that before the hall erupts into these sounds, there are usually plenty of groans…

ā€œEwww, that looks like snot!ā€
ā€œThat looks like vomit!ā€
ā€œThat looks like my baby brother’s poo!ā€ šŸ˜†

And that’s exactly why we do it.

This experiment is about helping children learn to taste with their tongue, not their eyes. It gently challenges the automatic ā€œyuckā€ response and turns food into curiosity, confidence and fun.

Because when food becomes a fun experiment, children begin to understand their bodies in a whole new way.

Through The Mad Food Scienceā„¢ Incursion, we empower children, parents and teachers to explore the connection between food, mood, learning and behaviour — without judgement, pressure or food policing.

If you’d love your school community to experience this kind of hands-on, lightbulb-learning moment, please reach out.

We have some incursion spaces available for Term 2 and early Term 3. Send a DM or enquire at https://therootcause.com.au/the-mad-food-science-incursion/

Back to school tomorrow - do you feel prepared? Are you already dreading lunchboxes?
You’re not alone. Most parents I speak to feel stuck between:
• running out of ideas
• kids not eating what’s packed
• trying to ā€œmake it healthyā€
• and just getting through the week

Here’s the shift that changes everything:
Instead of saying ā€œthis is healthyā€ā€¦help kids understand why food matters
GO ⚔ GROW 🌱 GLOW ✨

I’ve shared a simple, realistic approach to lunchboxes (that actually works in real life) in my latest article šŸ‘‰ Link in bio

šŸ’› And if you want ongoing support, tips and ideas — make sure you’re on my newsletter or even better introduce me to your school and I can teach your kids all about food to make life easier for you at home - yay!

Greek natural yoghurt vs Greek style yoghurt
What’s the difference and which is a good choice for your family. Here are my picks and the ones my boys like.

Plain, natural yoghurt is a great staple on the nutrition front with no added sugar, add a spoonful of flavoured yoghurt if you like or some fruit or honey if you prefer that sweetness 😊

For over a decade, we’ve been empowering students, parents, caregivers and teachers to taste with their tongue not their eyes!

And our signature Mad Food Science Green Smoothie never fails to win most people over. There’s always a line up of kids wanting seconds, thirds and even sometimes fifths

We’ve lost track of how many parents have told us that their child who has never eaten anything green has gone home asking for it at home. That’s why we provide a handout to go home so they can continue the conversations and make the smoothie at home.

Check out these stats:
• served over 72,000 green smoothies
• made over 3,500 litres of green smoothie
• used over 10,800 Aussie Bananas

The Mad Food Science incursion is at the heart of our award winning and university evaluated Making Friends with Food school partnership.

In the incursion, students also learn about eating a rainbow of vegetable and fruit, why it’s important to tune in and listen to their body and ask what’s in my food, as well as learning about the connection between food and our amazing planet.

If you’d like your school to host The Mad Food Science Incursion, send me a DM and I’ll have a chat about the next steps.

Thanks for standing with us for children’s heath šŸ’›

Most of us already get enough protein from a balanced diet, so do we and our kids really need to be adding these high-protein foods?

I’ve broken it all down in a full article.
