Celebrating the World Ocean Day
Today is World Ocean Day and we celebrated with our children which helps us to focus on how to appreciate the ocean’s role in sustaining life and livelihood. The theme for World Ocean Day is ‘Revitalization: collective action for the ocean’ which reminds us of what could we do to protect the ocean. Inspired by this topic, today we provided a range of experiences helping children to understand the relationships between us and the ocean and how we could help in everyday life.
Sea World Sensory Play
Educator set up a sea world sensory experience and the children were invited to this table activity. The children showed curiosity about what was inside the container bowl and began to touch the variety colour of slippery beads. They got excited when they felt the texture of the balls and enjoyed scooping the balls into their hands. To make their experience more exciting we put a variety of sea creatures. Children loved interacting with the squishy beads. They test their sense of touch by scooping the slippery beads and feeling the cool water. Through the use of seashells, plant life, and ocean animals, children learned to identify ocean life as well as engage in sensory and dramatic play.
This hands-on sensory experience gives children the opportunity to think creatively, investigate new ideas, and participate in dramatic play.

The Inspired Nature
Inspired by nature interest and gardening play recently, educator set up a shaving cream sensory play incorporating a variety of natural resources such as leaves, stones, and tree nuts; recycled materials like plastic lids, wooden chips with letters and toys insects. Of course, all these resources covered a plate on top of a pile of shaving cream. The experience attracted all our little hands and the children were engaged in manipulating different textures, cold or sticky sensations, different shapes and more!
During the experience, children were encouraged to figure out the different textures of the materials. Some tried to feed the insects with shaving cream. Another child was brave enough trying to touch the insects to see whether they could move. He smiled when the educator assured him they were safe. Other child was busy using her sense to touch the cream and smelled and laughed.
Tactile sensory play can involve a wide variety of mediums, and it is so beneficial for children. Exploring the world using the sense of touch contributes to children’s ability to organise their mindset which supports them in further develop their emerging autonomy, inter-dependence, resilience and sense of agency.

Australian Habitats Collage
Inspired by the Reconciliation Week and following children’s interest in wild animals in Australia, the children were invited to participate in an Australian animals collage incorporating the picture collection of various Australian habitats, wild animals, and art tools. The children were encouraged to choose the animals and glued them to the habitats to which they related. The experience attracted the children and it provided a hands-on experience to let them explore the concept of wild Australian animals, labelling their names and their habits such as where they live.

Restaurant Dramatic Play
We turned our home corner into a restaurant and to make the table in our home corner look more like a restaurant We added table cloth, flowers, menu book, children's name tag and lots of kitchen utensils. Children pretended to be the chef and waiter who get and take their educators order. Children used their imagination and enjoyed their pretend cooking and serving food to their peers.
Pretend play promotes the development of children’s imaginative skills, problem solving, think flexibility, and language development.

This amazing slime experiment helps children to explore polymers and non-Newtonian fluids concepts, and also allows children to utilise and understand all five senses.
The children were buzzing with the excitement of this sensory play with lots of laughing, talking, and imagination. The experience encourages the development of fine motor skills, language expression, and coordination.
We are constantly looking for ways to foster curiosity and a love of learning in our children, regardless of ability. With a focus on STEM, this theme of learning also helps to foster resilience, healthy minds, and positive mental health practices.

Scientific Discovery (toys only)- "Wondering Insects". Children were eager to become involved with the experience with educators which came along with lots of chatting, discovering, and learning. We compared size differences using magnifying glasses, and learned the names of different insects and their life cycles. Lots of fun!
