People Judge You in 4 Seconds — Make Your First Impression Count

First impressions matter more than most people realize. Within just a few seconds of meeting you, people can begin forming judgments about your confidence, competence, credibility, and whether they can trust you.

That means how you show up matters — at a job interview, your first day at work, an important meeting, a date, a presentation, or any meaningful event.

Your clothes, grooming, body language, confidence, communication, and overall presence can influence how people perceive you before you’ve had much opportunity to prove yourself.

And once someone forms a first impression, confirmation bias can make that impression surprisingly difficult to change.

The good news? You can use this knowledge to your advantage.

Take a little extra care before important moments. Show up prepared. Look intentional. Communicate clearly. Carry yourself with confidence. A strong first impression won’t make you perfect — but it can give people a positive lens through which they interpret what you do next.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

In this video:
• Why first impressions are so powerful
• How people quickly judge confidence and competence
