First half of semester 1 DMD3 🕊️

I can’t believe we’re already more than half way through our semester subhanallah! I’ve learnt so much this year through seeing patients in clinic alhamdulilah and I can’t wait to see what the rest of this semester has in store for me inshallah.

With exams coming up, it’s definitely feeling a bit overwhelming with all the lectures and revision ahead, but inshallah everything will fall into place when the time comes.

I’m so grateful to have made it this far and it wouldn’t be possible without the help of Allah (swt).

A whirlwind start to DMD3 …
I definitely didn’t expect the semester to start this fast, but here we are 😆 Alhamdulillah for all the learning, growth and reminders of how far we’ve come. Here are some highlights from the first few weeks:
🦷 Hospital orientation at Sydney Dental Hospital & Westmead: long days, lots of listening, but super excited to be seeing patients from next week inshallah 🥹
🦷 Starting endodontics clinic again: we’re now working on maxillary molars which is challenging but so rewarding to see our progress
🦷 Final revision of tooth conservation and periodontics in sim clinic before seeing patients: nerve-wracking but also such a full-circle moment from sim clinic in DMD1🥹
🦷 Ortho workshop: learning the components of fixed retainers and trying them ourselves was honestly so fun
🦷 Student-led conference: presenting our systematic review on the oral microbiome and Parkinson’s disease was such a rewarding experience plus we got some cute freebies 😆

These weeks have really reminded me how far I’ve come since DMD1 alhamdulilah. So grateful for every challenge, every lesson, and the privilege of studying dentistry. Alhamdulillah always 🤍

1 semester later …
I definitely thought I’d be doing multiple recaps this semester as there was so much going on, but that’s probably why I didn’t have the time to do so 😆
Here are some of the highlights from this semester, alhamdulilah for all the progress:
🦷 I saw my first patient!! I got to do treatment planning and a scale and clean at the dental hospital as part of Integrated Clinic.
🦷 I did lots and lots of practice in endodontics sim clinic. It took me some time to grasp the concepts and practise them but I have made progress since the start of the year alhamdulilah!
🦷 I participated in volunteering opportunities relevant to dentistry. This is always such a wholesome experience that I highly recommend
🦷 I submitted my final report for my DMD project with my friend. We did a systematic review on the impact of the oral microbiome on Parkinson’s Disease, which I can’t wait to share with you all!
🦷 I tried my best to balance uni with my personal life. This is always such a hard thing to do but alhamdulilah I was able to make time for my health and wellbeing especially when there was so much going on this semester

I’m blessed to have learnt so much this semester and make progress in different areas. I can’t believe it’s almost the end of DMD2, which marks half way through my degree subhanallah 🥹🥹 I just have my 8 exams to finish🥲

13 weeks, 8 exams and 1 semester break later… It’s now the start of semester 2 DMD2 so I thought I’d give a recap of the last few months!
🦷 watched lots and lots of lectures for OSB, prosthodontics, oral surgery, LA, tooth cons, and more!
🦷 finished tooth cons and peri sim clinic
🦷 continued endodontics sim clinic
🦷 poured up and mounted models for occlusal splints
🦷 practiced infiltrations and inferior alveolar nerve blocks in sim
🦷 extracted teeth in cadavers
🦷 learnt anatomy of oral cavity, cranial cavity, TMJ, orbit and infra temporal fossa
🦷 self care: gym, spending time with friends and family, working on my deen

It was definitely a stressful semester but alhamdulilah for the friends that make my time in dental school full of memorable moments.

And most importantly, I’m grateful to Allah (swt) for giving me the opportunity to be here. May He use us to serve the ummah and never replace us, Ameen.

Status update: so far into the semester that I have no idea which week it is 😅 BUT alhamdulilah for the learning, the progress, the stress and the friends that push me through this degree.

Here’s a recap of what I’ve been doing in dental school this semester:
🦷 taking impressions and pouring them up
🦷 lots and lots of cavity preps and restorations - amalgam and composite
🦷 practising infiltrations and blocks
🦷 learning to use gracey curettes in periodontics
🦷 assisting DMD4 with their extractions and treatments
🦷 continuing root canal treatments in endodontics
🦷 lots and lots of lectures for OSB, oral surgery, radiology, prosthodontics, endodontics and tooth conservation

Semester 1 of DMD2 is already in full swing! ✨
Here’s a recap of how the last 4 weeks of uni looked like:
🦷continued tooth cons clinics with indirect and direct pulp capping
🦷started endodontics sim clinic
🦷took radiographs using the paralleling technique
🦷scaled and cleaned each other’s teeth in integrated clinic
🦷watched lots of lectures for tooth cons, perio, oral surgery/LA, oral and systemic biosciences and radiology
