This week at Belonging Early Learning Asquith, we have been thoughtfully exploring and celebrating National Reconciliation Week with our children through meaningful hands-on experiences, storytelling, music and creative expression. ❤️💛🖤
The children engaged in a variety of learning experiences that encouraged curiosity, respect and connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. From exploring traditional symbols in sensory trays and creating artwork inspired by Indigenous artists, to participating in music experiences using clap sticks and immersing themselves in rich cultural provocations, the children showed deep engagement and wonder throughout the week.
These experiences support children to develop an understanding of belonging, identity, respect and community, while fostering appreciation for the histories, cultures and contributions of First Nations peoples. We recognise the importance of embedding Indigenous perspectives into our everyday program in authentic and meaningful ways, helping children build foundations of empathy, inclusion and reconciliation from a young age.

Ahoy mateys! 🏴☠️⚓️
Last week at Belonging Asquith we celebrated an action-packed Pirate Week, all while raising funds for the incredible The Kids’ Cancer Project 💛
Our children and educators came dressed in their best pirate gear and spent the week enjoying lots of pirate adventures! We hunted for hidden treasure, walked the plank, created pirate crafts, sailed the seven seas in imaginative play, sang pirate songs, enjoyed sensory activities, and took part in plenty of pirate-themed games and fun. ☠️🦜🪙
It was wonderful to see our BELA community come together to support such an important cause while creating magical memories for the children.
A huge thank you to all of our families and educators for your support, generosity, and enthusiasm throughout the week! 💛

Over the past week, our program has focused on recognising and commemorating ANZAC Day, providing children with meaningful and age-appropriate opportunities to begin understanding its significance.
Throughout the week, the children engaged in a variety of experiences that supported both learning and reflection. They created beautiful poppies, learning that these flowers are a symbol of remembrance and respect. This creative experience also supported fine motor development while allowing children to express their understanding through art.
In the kitchen, the children participated in making traditional ANZAC biscuits. This hands-on experience sparked conversations about history, as we explored how these biscuits were sent to soldiers because they lasted a long time. It was a meaningful way to connect cooking with storytelling and cultural traditions.
During group times, we read ANZAC Ted, which introduced the concept of remembrance in a gentle and relatable way. The story encouraged thoughtful discussions, with children sharing their ideas and asking questions about soldiers, bravery, and helping others.
Across the week, we also explored values such as courage, kindness, respect, and helping our community. Children engaged in both group discussions and quiet reflective moments, while others expressed their understanding through play and conversations with peers and educators.
At BELA, we are committed to creating opportunities for children to develop an awareness of important cultural and historical events in ways that are meaningful, respectful, and appropriate to their developmental stage.
Lest we forget. 🌺

Today at BELA, our lovely Director received some very special mail 💌
Last week, while reading “The Jigsaw” with our preschool children, the group was inspired by the story and had a beautiful idea of their own — they wanted to send a letter, just like in the book!
When asked who they would like to send it to, the children excitedly replied, “Miss Roxc!” 🥰
From there, they got straight to work, using their creativity to draw gorgeous pictures of Miss Roxc and all the things she enjoys. Their thoughtful artwork was carefully put together and mailed off last Friday… and today, it arrived!
It was such a lovely surprise and brought the biggest smile to Miss Roxc’s face. Moments like these truly highlight the kindness, creativity, and strong connections within our BELA community 💛

🌊 When the children want to go to the beach… we bring the beach to them! 🐢🐠
Today our outdoor space was transformed into a coastal adventure, complete with sandy shores, ocean creatures, and a relaxing seaside vibe. The children explored marine life, engaged in imaginative play, and soaked up the joy of a beach day—right here at the centre!
Experiences like this spark curiosity, creativity, and a deeper connection to the natural world, all while supporting collaborative play and storytelling.
Who says you need the ocean when the ocean can come to you? 💙🏖️

At BELA, we feel incredibly lucky to have such a diverse and multicultural team of educators who each bring something truly unique and special to our learning environment. 🌏✨
Our educators share not only their knowledge and skills, but also their cultures, languages, and experiences—enriching our children’s understanding of the world around them and fostering a deep sense of respect and inclusion.
Today, our lovely Miss Jan spent time with our preschoolers teaching them some basic words in Mandarin. 🇨🇳💬 The children were so engaged and excited to learn a new language, embracing the opportunity with curiosity and enthusiasm.
These meaningful experiences help build strong foundations for cultural awareness and global understanding from a young age. We are so proud of the beautiful, inclusive community we are creating together at BELA 💛

🚗 Our Littlest Legends Exploring Transport & Road Safety! 🚦
Our curious learners in the Bottlebrush Room have been busy exploring the exciting world of transport and road safety through a range of hands-on and engaging experiences thoughtfully planned by our educators.
Children helped create their own classroom crosswalk, where they practised stopping, looking and safely crossing the road. They also explored creativity by painting with toy cars, discovering the tracks and patterns vehicles make as they move.
Throughout the week, children enjoyed transport-themed books, sparking conversations about different vehicles and the important roles they play in our community. One of the highlights was making our very own fire engine, which inspired lots of imaginative play and discussions about community helpers.
Through these playful experiences, our Littlest Legends are developing their curiosity, creativity and understanding of the world around them, while beginning to learn important concepts about road safety and transport in our community.
We love seeing our youngest learners so engaged in their exploration! 🚒🚗

🐼 Exploring China Through Play and Creativity at BELA 🇨🇳
Our Preschool children have recently been exploring the concepts of China as an extension of our Chinese new year program, through meaningful, play-based learning experiences. As part of this journey, the children have been learning about Chinese culture, traditions, and iconic animals — including the much-loved panda!
Using real photographs as inspiration, the children engaged in an art experience where they carefully observed the unique features of pandas — their black and white markings, shapes, and expressions — before creating their own interpretations. Through this hands-on, play-based exploration, children were able to investigate, experiment, and express their ideas in creative ways.
Play-based learning allows children to:
✨ Explore cultures and the world around them in meaningful ways
✨ Develop fine motor skills and artistic techniques
✨ Strengthen concentration, observation, and problem-solving skills
✨ Build confidence as they bring their ideas to life
It has been wonderful to see the children’s pride and focus as their pandas came to life on paper. Experiences like this support curiosity, creativity, and a deeper understanding of our diverse world. 🌏💛

The children had such a wonderful time taking part in the Holi celebration by throwing bright coloured powders and engaging in fun, colour-themed activities. It was beautiful to see their excitement, joy, and curiosity as they explored vibrant colours through play-based learning.
What a fun and memorable way to celebrate the Festival of Colours together! 💜💛💙💚❤️
