So many of the ways we love (and struggle to be loved) trace back to what we learned long before we knew we were learning it. The hypervigilance. The pulling away before someone else can. The people pleasing that feels like keeping the peace but is really self-abandonment.
None of this was your fault, but adaptations that made sense given what you were working with. It formed in the tiny, repeated moments with your caregivers, long before you had words for any of it. Were they attuned when you were distressed? Consistent? Was it safe to need them, or did needing them cost you?
Which one do you recognise in yourself? Save this for later, or let me know in the comments.
