This week we tried out a new dish for afternoon tea that our friends prepared for baking- Peach loaf. We used banana instead of egg and to replace milk we used puréed peaches to make our peach loaf. This smelt so good with fruit being the primary ingredients and it tasted so good. Even some of our little Dundas friends who don’t eat cakes or sweet treats at home always enjoy these delicious afternoon treats. Being part of the cooking or baking process assists in them wanting to eat what they have made. During preparing this dish the children used maths concepts of counting, fine and gross motor skills and patience waiting their turn.

Did you know our School Readiness Program covers a variety of different areas of learning from pre-writing skills, how to identify letters, numbers and own name, cutting and concepts like measuring and volume of water. Here you can see our friends exploring measuring different objects with a ruler and reading the numbers and pouring water into different clear jars and seeing which had the most.

With one of our friends about to become a big brother in the next few days we got the babies out and did some water play to learn some self help skills on how we keep ourselves clean and healthy. We washed the babies, brushed their teeth, dried them with a towel, got them into a nappy and clothes and most importantly lots of cuddles.

Free painting sensory tray today! We engaged with some natural painting using leaves found on a twig. They used the leaves to paint with and also painted the leaves as a canvas but the most painting was done on the tuff tray.

This morning, our Dundas friends asked to say hello to Luna one of our chickens. They were very excited to say hello. Due to safety our friends have no direct contact with chickens running around but they help feed them and collect eggs that go home with our families to enjoy.

Last night we had our monthly staff meeting and one of our main topics was learning all things about this life saving apparatus called ‘Lifevac’. This device has been created and is in each of our company centres to be on hand if we encounter a choking incident of a child, sibling, visitor or adult. During our meeting we watched some videos on how to use it, got our one out to have something to refer to and see it in person which makes it less daunting if we need to use it. We also watched how quickly a child sitting in a car went from being fine, parent pulling over and using this device in seconds to unlodge what they were choking on. These devices can be purchased for home use as well as businesses. It can potentially save a life. At Dundas ELC we got one so we can be prepared as children are vulnerable to choking. https://youtu.be/RkEehtL6KX8?si=2B76ulb1yJCQlbMv Check out this video link to see how quickly things can change and how quickly this device can be to save someone. In the yellow bag comes 3 different size masks to help used- infant, child and adult so it can save potentially save anyone. https://lifevac.net.au/products/lifevac-soft-travel-kit

This week we would love our families to take a puzzle piece home to cut out and do a representation drawing or art about your family- who is in your family? What is your background to show we are all united at Dundas ELC as one family. We stand together with a puzzle collage!

This morning we had the NSW health Steps Eye vision team come and do the eye tests for our friends who are 4 and over who will go off to school. This test is done before they start school to ensure they can see short and far away to know where to sit in class or if they need further testing to see if assistance with glasses is needed. They do this by matching letters on a board wearing funny glasses that cover one eye at a time to test each individual eye.
