Welcome to my student’s story..✨

When this 6-year-old first joined Apex Learning Academy, 3-digit calculations felt like a big task.

He knew the numbers, but he needed time to process them.

We started building his calculation skills step by step through abacus learning.

At first, he used the physical abacus to understand the numbers.
Then, slowly, he began visualising the beads in his mind.

And that’s when something amazing started happening. 👀

One day, he was given a 3-digit calculation.

He looked at it, visualised the abacus… and gave the answer incredibly quickly.

No calculator.
No counting on fingers.
Just mental calculation built through practice. ❤️

The goal was never simply to make him “fast.”

It was to help him develop number sense, concentration, calculation confidence and mental maths skills from an early age.

And watching that confidence grow has been the best part of his journey. 🥹🧮

“If your child can play mobile games for 2 hours straight but can’t focus on studies for 10 minutes…” 📚

Before saying “My child is lazy”, look at what might actually be happening 👇

1️⃣ Games give instant feedback.
Points, rewards, sounds and levels keep the brain engaged. Homework often doesn’t give that immediate sense of progress.

2️⃣ Your child may avoid subjects where they don’t feel confident.
If every study session ends with “I got it wrong,” avoiding the book can feel easier than trying again.

3️⃣ They may focus better when the task is broken into small challenges.
Instead of “Study for 1 hour,” try one small goal: “Let’s finish these 3 questions first.”

4️⃣ Passive studying can feel much harder than interactive learning.
Reading the same page repeatedly isn’t always the best way to learn.

5️⃣ The real issue may be the learning method—not the child’s ability.
The right approach can make learning more engaging, structured and manageable.

💛 Don’t compare your child’s focus during gaming with their ability to learn. Understand what keeps them engaged and bring that into learning.
