Ever walked into a room and forgot why? That's your working memory having a moment.
The ADHD brain processes info differently. We don't shuffle things based on importance. So then priorities get jumbled, context disappears, and suddenly we're standing there like 'wait, what was I doing?'
That's why i added the 'Don't forget' section to the Daily Focus Friend in my book and planner. Now those small tasks you'll probably (definitely) forget are anchored to your day plan, not floating around in your brain.
Externalising exec function can be really helpful.

A thought on hyperfocus. Anyone relate?

Switching tasks sounds like the simplest thing. Just... stop doing one thing and start another. Right..?
There's a whole invisible process happening in between for our brains. And if you've ever found yourself randomly tidying the kitchen when you were supposed to be starting an email, that's probably why.

I've done the 9-5 thing...
- in a classroom full-time.
- in a corporate, open plan office full-time.
- on weekly production schedules.
I showed up consistently on time, every time.
But THE most productive I've ever been is when I leaned into my true natural rhythm...
When I start the morning slow, with coffee and watching the birds from my balcony.
Or other times it's when I work through dinner because an idea hits me in the afternoon.
When I trust that staying up until 3 because i was inspired is worth the 10am wake up.
When I work the 80+ hour 'sprint' weeks in a crazy flurry (letting the work pour out and letting everything else go lol 🫠) and then rest the entire next week after.
Some days are super intense and highly productive. Other days are recovery. The output evens out. The work is better. It's inspired.
I know not everyone has the flexibility to work this way... But if you've ever felt like the problem was you, it might just be the structure.

We're not overreacting. We're 'under-recovered'.
ADHDers run the same emotional cycle as everyone else... we just do it more intensely, more often, and without enough time between events to reset 💛

Our ADHD brains 🧠 can get easily distracted because we have interest-based nervous systems, not importance-based ones. 🤯
Sometimes we may get frustrated when we are trying to focus on something important.💡But we can keep things exciting by rewarding ourselves when completing boring tasks ❤

ADHD brains use more energy to manage executive functions like completing tasks. 🧠 Where our mental energy depletes faster, it makes simple tasks feel more tiring.
And since rest isn’t as simple as ‘just relax’ it can take even longer to recover from completing tasks 🫠
