In Part 4 former bouncer Sifu Mark Spence explains how the correct approach to the Wing Chun forms allows us to develop the type of reflexes necessary to apply Wing Chun in a fight.

For a deeper explanation of the "everything counter's everything" idea Mark mentions, this video explains this well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOkLXQjlhV8

In Part 3 former bouncer Sifu Mark Spence describes how the correct practice of the forms allows us to cultivate the state of mind required to fight effectively.

While this may seem counter-intuitive, relaxation based flow state training was successfully used by renowned track and field coach Lloyd "Bud" Winter's to train WW2 pilots as described here https://www.flowstatewingchun.com/post/peak-performance-under-pressure-relax

In Part 2 former bouncer Sifu Mark Spence explains why the correct condition of the body and joints (relaxed muscles and decompressed joints) is more important than their position.

While each angle or shape has geometric advantages and disadvantages, if you rely on tension to achieve these shapes/positions or hold them in place, you lose the ability to use the movement & rotation of your centre of mass as a source of power.

On the other hand, once you've achieved the right condition, you can apply your entire mass to any shape or position and gain both a power and structural advantage.

In Part 1 former bouncer Mark Spence explains the most common misconception he has encountered among Wing Chun practitioners over the last 40 years and why this impacts their ability to successfully apply Wing Chun in fighting or unlock the forms true potential.

While being fit and strong is essential for our health and physical resilience, the ability to properly relax and decompress the joints (developed by practicing the forms correctly) is a prerequisite for learning to use the movement and rotation of our centre of mass to generate force.
