Careers of Today - 4th May

With Western Sydney being the 3rd largest economy in Australia, your child’s future for employment is very positive. Navigating the careers of today can be challenging and confusing. Did you know research shows that only 28% of parents feel they can guide their children in careers which are ever changing.

The Careers of Today Parent Education Forum is an opportunity for parents and students across Western Sydney to engage with industry experts in key career areas where employment is growing.

Let’s bring the community together to educate & inquire about the careers of today and how your child can make informed decisions about their future.

The evening will kick off with a panel of industry experts in key growth industries:

- AI & Technology: Kate Dodds
- Australian Catholic University, Dr Valentine Mukuria
- Construction: Darren Ingram, Clarendon Homes
- Business Western Sydney (Tourism): David Borger
- Early Childhood Education and Care: Jo Tapley Health, Sophie Najjarin

Moderator: Donna Davis MP, Member for Parramatta

There will be an opportunity for questions and answers to the panelists. Then parents and students will engage with industries, educational institutions & employers through an expo style. This an opportunity to ask more direct questions related to your child’s career interests.

What a start to our new Family Partnership Council (FPC)! 🙌

Last night, more than 150 parents and carers came together at St John XXIII Catholic College Stanhope Gardens for our very first FPC event, and what a night it was!

We were fortunate to hear from parenting expert Gen Muir on Raising Resilient Kids in a Fast-Paced World - a topic that clearly resonated with so many families.

Gen reminded us of something simple but powerful: our kids thrive when they feel loved, safe and seen. She also shared practical, everyday strategies, including:

• Allowing children to experience some struggle to build resilience
• Setting clear, calm boundaries that create security
• Focusing on connection before correcting behaviour

More than just a great talk, the evening showed what’s possible when families, schools and the diocese come together - this is what the FPC is all about.

We’re just getting started. If you’re keen to be involved, we’re looking for Family Ambassadors in every school - simple, meaningful roles that strengthen connection in your community.

A big thank you to St John XXIII for hosting, to Cath Garrett-Jones, George Giovas and Sharon Hader for their support, and to everyone who made the time to be there.

Bring on the next one!
