На занятиях ученики не читают тексты, чтобы перевести. Они читают, чтобы научиться думать

Reading comprehension is the difficult process of teaching how to think

We start by emphasising the importance of explaining opinions clearly. Then, we teach the basic structure for expressing an opinion. It starts with teaching different types of opinions.
For example, there are opinions of value, opinions of fact, and opinions of policy.
Then we show students how to explain their opinions by making comparisons, contrasting ideas, or using cause-and-effect sentences.
Additionally, students learn how to support their opinions though examples, statistics, expert opinions, and explanations.
Teaching this skill is not something that can be accomplished in one or two lessons; it requires consistent practice and refinement throughout the years.
But don't worry—once students start grasping this concept, their essays and speeches will reach ever higher levels

We don't live in each other's heads; therefore, it is critical to explain ideas clearly.
When people communicate they listen to each other through their own prisms based on their own personal experiences.
For example, if a "good atmosphere" means peace and quiet to me, it might mean something completely different to my friend who likes very energetic environments such as parties
Another important point to mention is that distinguishing between what people feel and what they think is a significant challenge. For example, "I don't like apples" isn't an opinion; it reflects a person's attitude, which no one can argue against.
As teachers, we show students how to express themselves clearly, not only when writing essays but also when speaking. This is a skill that helps them greatly in school, university, work, and life.

It sounds like the perfect motto for 2025. And as one experienced teacher said: "We should master the skill of being imperfectly perfect!"
So, bear these two ideas in mind and start learning and improving your English or, like I am going to do, restore your teacher's blog.

Продолжаем тему зависимости от гаджетов.

Уроки английского это не только про изучение английского. Это ещё и понимание, как влияют разные аспекты развития нашей психики на обучение, а так же какое воздействие могут оказывать сторонние факторы на данный процесс.

А у вас есть зависимость от гаджетов?

After a looooong break. If you want to get this lesson, use the link in BIO to download it for free.

I really enjoy creating my own lessons because I can choose topics according to my taste. Although Cambridge books, which I use for my lessons, offer a great range of thoughtful activities to increase students' knowledge and abilities, I sometimes prefer to dig deeper as I see my lessons not only as a tool to teach English, but also as an opportunity to expand students' minds.

Hardly had I arrived at the party when the countdown to the New Year began.

Seldom do we spend time with family on New Year’s Eve with family in Australia.

I remembered this one when I was writing a short story the other day. It reminded me of many times in my past when I couldn't keep my mouth shut🤐, I'd often blurt out the first thing that came to my mind- it landed me in some hot water sometimes😳. Do you have any examples of when you blurted something out?

Wonder Writing Underway📚📖

Three features of a well-written paragraph:

✒      A topic sentence introduces the idea that the paragraph discusses. For Advanced and Proficiency students, the topic sentence should link with the previous paragraph to create cohesion.

✒       Relevant sentences that relate to the idea outlined in the topic sentence. Do not include irrelevant information!

✒       A concluding sentence that sums up the idea. For lower levels this could be a paraphrase of the topic sentence and for higher levels this should be flexible enough so the next paragraph can link to it.

Since I began to teach in Russia, I have heard the phrase хакнуть экзамен (hacknoot ehkzamen) everywhere, which is an import from the English verbal monstrosity: to hack (think life hacks) and the phrase literally means to hack an exam or, in plain English, learn how to pass an exam with the least amount of work possible.

Now I agree that it is possible to ‘to hack an exam’ by getting students to remember set phrases and essay structures like they are some mathematical formulas which can then be used to pass an A2 level student off as a B2 level student in an exam such as IELTS.

In fact, I have seen people achieve this. The question is – is it a wise thing to do? Once the student has passed the exam, then what?

I have seen students who have received their dream mark in an international exam by hacking it and then achieved a place at their dream university or a position at their dream international corporation only to find that they fail their subjects because they can’t write or fail to communicate with their international colleagues because they can’t speak.

Learning a language takes time and patience and we tend to forget this in our fast-paced, modern world where it is all too natural to try to cut corners everywhere.

What are your thoughts❓ What benefits can we gain from hacking an exam❓ What negative outcomes can we expect❓

For exam preparation students, what is the tone of the piece I wrote❓ Positive, neutral or negative❓ What words show my tone in this piece❓

By the way, if anyone is interested, I am setting up a writing course where I will teach you all the hacks for you to pass C2 Proficiency in 3 days🤭
