ACA NSW has written to the NSW Attorney-General (the Hon Michael Daley MP) expressing how gutted our sector is with respect to the continuing delays with:

* the extradition back to NSW of NSW/Australia's worst pa******le to stand trial for the 180 charges against 23 NSW children. (since August 2023); and

* the sentencing of the murderer of early childhood educator Molly Ticehurst (since April 2024).

WHY IS OVERSUPPLY (STILL) OCCURRING?

It ought to be noted that about ten years ago, ACA and ACA NSW may be the very first to identify oversupply of early childhood education and care services and their negative consequences as early as 2016/2017.

In NSW, there are three primary contributors to oversupply:

* the National Competition Policy;
* the NSW State Environmental Planning Policy; and
* the NSW Department of Education's Assessment Panel Decision Making Framework.

NINE (9) NEW ECEC SERVICES AT NSW PUBLIC SCHOOLS FUNDED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Federal Ministers the Hon Jason Clare MP, Senator the Hon Jess Walsh and NSW Deputy Premier the Hon Prue Car MP announced on 21 May 2026 of the Federal Government's $59m funding the creation of 6+3 new early childhood education and care services that will have a projected 400 places (at $147,500 per place)

NSW PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE REPORT ON ECEC RELEASED ... AND IT IS INCOMPLETE

The NSW Parliamentary Committee released its 196-page Report on NSW's early childhood education and care sector on 20 May 2026.

It is worth noting that where the Report referred to results and metrics, it was much to be desired.

VALE CAROL ANN BURGESS - A FRIEND OF AND TO ACA NSW

Early Childhood Australia's NSW Committee chair Carol Ann Burgess passed away on 5 May 2026.

Carol Burgess and ACA NSW both were members of the NSW Department of Education's Early Childhood Advisory Group since its inception.

Although others would focus on our differences, Carol actively and warmly engaged with ACA NSW's perspectives. Likewise, ACA NSW would similarly reciprocate, building consensus and trust whenever and wherever possible.

It would be safe to conclude that in our respective ways, we also became each other's advocates to others especially when it came to advancing children's outcomes through early childhood education and care.

ACA NSW was represented by CEO Chiang Lim who attended Carol's memorial service and conveyed our members' condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.

We will remember Carol.

WHAT SHOULD BE IN THE ADVANCED CHILD SAFETY TRAINING?

With apparently the majority of the sector having completed the Mandatory Child Safety Training (Foundational Module), governments are beginning to focus on what the Advanced Module Training would entail.

The responsibility for the content of both the Foundational Module as well as the Advanced Module lies with the Australian Centre for Child Protection (ACCP).

Amanda Paton of the ACCP will already be speaking on the panel at the upcoming ACA NSW Inner Circle evening on 25 May 2026 at Wenty Leagues Club beginning at 6.00 pm for 6.30 pm.

As such, a 1-hour consultation session from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm has been offered to those attending the Inner Circle evening about what could be the content of the Advanced Module (which is anticipated to be available from July 2026 onwards).
