Aspiring students from Western Sydney to pursue further education.
The First Foot Forward Program is a partnership between the Western Sydney University and primary schools in the Greater Western Sydney region. Launched in June 2013 by the UWS Office of Widening Participation, the program aims to support schools and families by providing students in Years 5 and 6 with an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of their higher education options. By giving prim
ary aged students the opportunity to learn about higher education options prior to beginning high school, the First Foot Forward Program aims to reach students at a younger age and plant the seed needed to start students thinking seriously about their future. By working with students early on in their schooling journey, it is hoped that they recognise the need to take a more diligent approach to their studies and therefore gain the most out of their education. The First Foot Forward Primary Program runs a variety of events for participating students and their families, including:
• On-campus Visits – Where students spend a whole day at one of campus’ in the life of a University students, taking part in workshops and activities.
• In-School Workshops – Our First Foot Forward team runs an interactive workshop at our primary schools.
• Family Open Nights – All our students from the program and their families are invited to come to our campus for a night of fun activities and informative talks. Each of these events is designed to get students and their families thinking about their higher education options and potential career paths.
