This program is surgically designed to cover the core of Unit 3 Functions in depth, focusing on the techniques that separate high achievers from the rest:
• Week 1: Polynomial Functions & Transformations
o Quadratic Mastery: Rapid use of Completing the Square and solving advanced problems.
o Function Transformations: Critical focus on the correct sequence (Dilation/Reflection before Translation).
o General Polynomials: Master the Remainder & Factor Theorems for fast factorisation and accurate sketching.
• Week 2: Exponential & Logarithmic Functions
o Inverse Relationship: Understand exponential function and
y = ln(x) as inverses.
o Asymptote Analysis: Critical focus on identifying Horizontal and Vertical Asymptotes.
o Solving Equations: Practice solving complex equations using algebraic laws.
• Week 3: Rational & Root Functions
o Hyperbola & Truncus: Full analysis of asymptotes and range restrictions.
o Root Functions : Key focus on inherent domain/range restrictions and how transformations affect the start point.
• Week 4: Inverse & Piecewise Analysis

📈 Year 11 Functions Mastery (Unit 1 Focus)

Targeting Students Entering Year 11 in 2026

Establish a strong algebraic foundation for the entire VCE course. This stream ensures perfect mastery of linear and quadratic functions and the crucial manipulation skills needed for success in Units 1 and 2.

Week Focus

Core Skills Mastered

Week 1: Linear Functions

Gradient, Midpoint, and Distance formulas. Mastering all forms of linear equations (y=mx+c, Point-Gradient) and solving problems involving Parallel and Perpendicular Lines.

Week 2: Quadratic Skills

Fast and accurate algebraic manipulation: Expanding, Factorising (monic, non-monic, difference of squares), and applying the Null Factor Law to find x-intercepts.

Week 3: Parabola Graphs

Converting General Form to Vertex Form using Completing the Square (CTS). Understanding graphical transformations and accurately determining the Domain and Range.

Week 4: Advanced Quadratic Use

Mastery of the Quadratic Formula and the Discriminant to determine the number of solutions. Solving Simultaneous Equations (linear/quadratic systems) and applied modelling problems.
