👀👂👃✋👅 Discovering the World Through Our Senses

How much can we discover without using all of our senses at once?

Our Pre Kinder children at Inspire Doncaster have been finding out through a series of Five Senses experiences exploring sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste.

Sometimes the children had to look closely, searching for colours, shapes and small details. Other times, their eyes were covered and they had to rely on what they could hear, smell or feel.

Mystery containers were shaken and listened to carefully. Mint, spices and natural materials were smelled without looking. Hands reached into mystery boxes to feel for something soft, hard, smooth, rough, big or small. Different foods also gave the children a chance to explore taste and talk about the flavours they noticed.

There were lots of guesses along the way. Some were right straight away, while others needed another listen, sniff or feel. 🌿

Rather than simply learning the names of the Five Senses, the children were able to use them for themselves and discover just how much information their eyes, ears, nose, hands and taste can give them every day. 💚

🎨 What Can You Create?

At Inspire Doncaster Campus, a simple question became the starting point for a wonderful open-ended art experience: “What can you create?” ✨

With blank paper and a variety of materials including feathers, pipe cleaners, colourful paper, shiny pieces and different shapes and textures, the children were invited to explore and create in their own way.

There was no example to copy and no set outcome. Instead, the children chose the materials that interested them, experimented with different arrangements and made their own decisions as their artwork developed. 🖌️🌈

Some were drawn to bright and shiny materials, while others explored soft feathers, shapes and different combinations. Even with the same materials available, every creation became completely unique.

Open-ended art gives children the freedom to explore their own ideas, make choices and enjoy the creative process without worrying about making something the “right” way.

Sometimes all it takes is a blank page, a table full of interesting materials and one simple question:

“What can you create?” 💛

🌕🥮 Mid-Autumn Festival at Inspire Doncaster

Last month, our children spent some time learning about and celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival together.

One of the highlights was making mooncakes! The children rolled the dough, shaped it with their hands and carefully pressed it into the moulds. There was always a little moment of excitement when the mould was lifted and the pattern appeared underneath. And, of course, everyone was very interested in tasting the finished mooncakes too! 🥮

We also brought the full moon into our Creative Program. Using balloons and paper, the children worked layer by layer to create their own moons. It was a process that took time, and the children enjoyed coming back to see how their creations were changing and taking shape. 🌕🏮

Along the way, we shared stories and talked about some of the traditions connected with the Mid-Autumn Festival.

For some of our children, this is a celebration they already know from home. For others, it was something new to discover. We loved being able to bring these different experiences into our program and give children the chance to share, explore and enjoy them together. 💛

🎨 Turning Ideas into Clay

Our Illawarra children explored clay as a way to bring their ideas and imagination to life.

As their sculptures developed, children made thoughtful choices about shape, form and detail, incorporating natural materials such as sticks, leaves and flowers into their designs. 🌿

We also explored how Aboriginal artists use art to communicate stories, ideas and connections to Country, encouraging children to think about how their own creations can carry meaning. 🖤💛❤️

Through open-ended art experiences, children learn that creativity isn’t about following one example—it’s about experimenting, making decisions and finding their own ways to express an idea. ✨

📚🎭 Looking Back at Our Book Week Parade at Inspire Preston!

Our Book Week celebrations continued into the afternoon with our three Kinder rooms taking to the stage, each bringing their chosen book theme to life with creativity, colour and plenty of excitement! ✨

🎩 Illawarra Room – The Cat in the Hat
Children dressed as the mischievous Cat and his fun-loving friends, bringing plenty of playful energy and giggles to the catwalk!

🦊 Jacaranda Room – Zootopia
Children and educators transformed into their favourite Zootopia characters, creating a wild and colourful parade full of energy and fun! 🐰🐾

🐇 Grevillea Room – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Children and educators stepped into the whimsical world of Wonderland as Alice, the White Rabbit and other much-loved characters. It was wonderful to see their imagination come to life! ✨

It was such a fantastic afternoon and a wonderful way to celebrate Book Week together. A huge thank you to our families, children and educators for all the creativity, effort and enthusiasm that made the parade so special. 📚❤️

🏛️🦖 Museum Fun & Wonder-Filled Learning at Inspire Mount Waverley!

Our children recently enjoyed an exciting museum excursion, with plenty of opportunities to explore, investigate and discover more about the world around us. ✨

🦕 Dinosaur Discovery
The children became little palaeontologists as they explored dinosaur anatomy, observed fossil structures and took part in interactive experiences. A highlight was being able to touch and examine fossils up close! Through the Triceratops exhibition, they also discovered more about how fossils are found and what they can tell us about the past.

🌿 Discovering First Nations Culture
Our journey continued in the First Nations Gallery, where children explored traditional tools, crafts and cultural objects. This gave them an opportunity to learn more about First Nations peoples, their knowledge, creativity and enduring connections to Country.

From fascinating fossils to cultural artefacts, the day was filled with questions, observations and hands-on discoveries. What a wonderful way to take learning beyond the classroom and experience it in the wider world! 🏛️💛

Our Creative Program has been busy preparing something special for Father’s Day—a handmade Dream Catcher created by our children with lots of care and love. ✨

Throughout the process, children explored different materials, colours and painting techniques, making their own choices about how they wanted their Dream Catchers to look. 🎨

Rather than following one design, each child had the freedom to create in their own way. Every colour, pattern and little detail became part of a unique gift made especially for Dad.

We hope each Dream Catcher carries a little message of love: after a long day, may Dad come home, relax and have the sweetest dreams. 🌙💤

🏊‍♀️💦 Splash, Swim & Smile at Inspire Chadstone! 💦🏊‍♂️

Our Swimming Program is in full swing, with our educators taking the children to our local community pool for plenty of learning, fun and water adventures! ✨

The children have been practising important swimming skills such as blowing bubbles, kicking their legs, breathing techniques and becoming safe and confident in the water.

As their confidence and skills grow, some children have also been challenging themselves by moving into deeper water, practising diving, swimming laps and rolling onto their backs. 💪🌊

There have been plenty of splashes, giggles and proud “I did it!” moments along the way! 🥰 It has also been wonderful for our families to see how much the children’s confidence has grown.

Through regular swimming experiences, children are developing water skills and safety awareness while also building independence, confidence and a willingness to challenge themselves. ❤️

👮‍♀️🚓 A Special Visit from Our Local Police!

Our children at Inspire Moorabbin were very excited to welcome Victoria Police for a fun and meaningful Police Incursion. 💙

The officers chatted with the children about what police do in our community, their uniforms and equipment, and how they can help us when we need support. Our curious learners had plenty of questions and loved the opportunity to learn directly from real police officers.

One of the biggest highlights was exploring the police car! 🚔✨ Children took turns sitting inside, looking at the equipment and discovering what it might feel like to be a police officer for the day. Some even had the chance to try on police uniforms and hats! 👮‍♂️

Through real-life experiences like this, children become more familiar with the people who help within their community while building their understanding of personal safety and who they can turn to for help.

A big thank you to our visiting Victoria Police officers for spending time with our children and creating such a memorable experience! 💙

♻️ Giving Waste Paper a Second Life at Inspire Doncaster 🌱

What happens to a piece of paper after we have finished using it? Recently, our Illawarra children explored this question by making their very own recycled paper.

Children began by tearing collected waste paper into small pieces and soaking them in water. As they squeezed, mixed and pressed the wet paper, they observed how its texture changed and gradually transformed into pulp.

Next came the paper-making process. Using a frame, children collected the pulp, removed the excess water, pressed it flat and patiently waited for it to dry. The result was something very exciting—their old scraps had become a new sheet of paper! ✨

The finished recycled paper could then be used again for drawing and creative experiences, showing children in a very practical way how something we might normally throw away can be given another purpose. 🎨

At Inspire Doncaster, we want sustainability to be something children can experience, not simply something we tell them about. Seeing waste paper transform in their own hands helps children begin to understand the value of reusing materials, reducing waste and caring for our environment. 🌏💚

🎭✨ Zootopia Performance at Inspire Doncaster!

What a fabulous morning celebrating our wonderful Zootopia performers! Our children did an amazing job bringing their characters to life through music, movement and performance. 🌟

Through rehearsing and performing together, children built confidence, creativity, communication, memory and coordination while learning the importance of teamwork and supporting one another.

We were so proud to see the enthusiasm, courage and joy each child brought to the stage, as well as the wonderful sense of achievement they shared after the performance.

🤍✨ Honouring Stories, Culture & Connection | NAIDOC Week Celebration ✨🤍

This NAIDOC Week, our learning spaces at Inspire Doncaster were filled with curiosity, creativity, and meaningful moments as we celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, stories, and connections to Country. 🌿💛

The children explored natural materials, discovering different textures and learning about the significance of plants and resources from Country. 🍃✨ Inspired by traditional weaving practices, little hands carefully combined leaves, wool, and branches to create a collaborative nature weaving. 🤎 The finished piece became a symbol of connection, strength, and the power of working together towards the future. ✨

The children also explored creative expression and proudly recreated the NAIDOC Week poster inspired by this year’s “50 Years of Deadly” theme. 🖤💛❤️ Through colours, patterns, and their own unique ideas, they celebrated this special week while expressing their creativity and appreciation for culture. 🎨✨

Sensory play invitations encouraged children to explore, imagine, and share stories through open-ended experiences, sparking curiosity, meaningful conversations, and a sense of belonging. 🌸✨

Through nature, art, and storytelling, our children embraced the spirit of NAIDOC Week—honouring stories, celebrating culture, and nurturing a deeper connection with the world around them. 💛

Every Fish Has Its Own Story 🐠

Recently, our educators at Inspire Doncaster noticed the children's growing interest in fish, colourful sea creatures, and stories about the ocean. To build on this curiosity, we introduced the much-loved story The Rainbow Fish.

After reading the story together, the children shared their thoughts about friendship, kindness, and what makes each of us unique. They then created their own Rainbow Fish, choosing colours, patterns, and materials that reflected their own ideas.

Some children filled their fish with bright rainbow scales, while others experimented with different colours and designs. To finish their creations, they added soft feathers to the tails and fins, enjoying the different textures as they painted, glued, and created.

One of the loveliest parts of the experience was seeing how different every Rainbow Fish turned out. Each artwork reflected the child's own imagination, creativity, and way of expressing themselves.

By following the children's interests, we're able to create experiences that encourage curiosity, conversation, and creativity while making learning meaningful and enjoyable. 💛
