The way in which communication and interactions with others lead to an altered sense of self following aphasia.
How the relational self changes over time after the onset of aphasia.
Amy has been a speech pathologist for 20 years working with clients in acute, rehabilitation and community settings. She completed a PhD in 2025 focusing on the experience of people with aphasia in close personal relationships and has an interest in the interaction of communication, relationships and mental health.

Seminar 62 - Assessment in multilingual aphasia: Challenges and clinical strategies. Presentation by: Dr Monica I. Norvik
We were delighted to have Dr Monica Norvik join us to present our May Seminar. This presentation address challenges in assessing multilingual adults with aphasia and outline strategies for overcoming them. Topics include premorbid proficiency versus post-stroke abilities, self-reports, selecting appropriate tools, assessing languages clinicians do not know through interpreters, and interpreting multilingual assessment data.
Monica I. Norvik is a Professor of Speech and Language Therapy at UiT The Arctic University of Norway and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Oslo. She is a speech and language therapist and clinical linguist with over 20 years of clinical experience, specialising in multilingual aphasia and dementia. She leads the Multilingual Aphasia Project within the Collaboration of Aphasia Trialists.

CALL FOR MENTORS The Tavistock Trust for Aphasia is once again offering to support the International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders (IALP) to develop strategies for engaging with and providing professional development to SLTs in resource-constrained contexts. This project is coordinated by the IALP Aphasia Committee. Mentees will be emerging SLTs (in their first 7 years of clinical practice) from low- and middle-resourced countries where speech-language therapy services for people with aphasia are limited or not yet established....
