Nangak Tamboree (nan-nyack tam-bor-ee) means respecting, sharing and looking after the waterway in Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people. The Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary was created in 1967 as a project in the restoration and management of indigenous flora and fauna. It has now evolved to now be a high biodiversity node within the Nangak Tamboree Eco-Corridor. This eco-corridor conne

cts the Sanctuary from the Gresswell Habitat Link and Gresswell Forest to our north, through the La Trobe University Bundoora campus to Darebin Creek in the south. This regenerated bushland environment is used for conservation, education and research activities that support the learning and teaching objectives of La Trobe University and it's surrounding schools. We also provide an array of community events and volunteering opportunities for those interested in the conservation of indigenous flora and fauna at the Wildlife Sanctuary. Triggerplants - now in stock!

We have both species in stock - Common Trigger Plant (Stylidium armeria) and Grass Triggerplant (Stylidium graminifolium). These can add a gorgeous pop of colour to your garden.

We will be open both Saturday and Sundays through to the end of spring!

Happy National Wattle Day! 💛💛

National Wattle Day celebrates Australia’s national floral emblem, the Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha). This bright golden flower is a unifying symbol that represents the spirit of the Australian people and the land we live on.

Over 1,000 species of wattle call Australia home, making them a unique part of the landscape. Did you know that wattles are incredibly resilient plants? Many of them are suited to withstand droughts, winds and bushfires.

During spring is when you can find the Golden Wattle at full bloom, where its iconic yellow flowers are on full display. These colours have also inspired Australia’s green and gold sporting identity. 💚💛

Traditionally, Australians celebrate National Wattle Day by wearing a small sprig of wattle. This tradition started during World War I, where soldiers received sprigs of Golden Wattle to remind them of home. 🌼

You can celebrate National Wattle Day by:
🚶Taking a walk and spotting native wattles in your area
🌱Learning about native plants and their importance
🌳Creating a garden with native Australian plants
🦘Visit local natural spaces, like the Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary and spot some of the wattle species that call our sanctuary home
