Our handwriting program at Hartley is all about building strong, confident writers through a balance of explicit teaching, hands-on activities, and plenty of practice!
Each fortnight, students focus on one letter and a numeral - exploring both uppercase and lowercase forms. Through explicit modelling, guided practice with the teacher and ES, and independent writing tasks, children learn the correct shapes, movements, and strokes to form each letter.
To make learning fun and engaging, we combine writing with sensory and fine-motor activities that help strengthen the muscles and coordination needed for beautiful handwriting.
It’s amazing to see our students developing their skills, confidence, and pride in their writing every week!

Students explored how controlled, cool, small fires are used to maintain a healthy environment for animals and people. Many students made thoughtful connections between traditional practices and modern fire management, demonstrating curiosity and respect for Aboriginal knowledge and its importance in caring for Country. Some students spent their play times role playing caring for Country.
