BIG NEWS! I will be launching Northey Street City Farm's new outreach service, Cultivating Communities Qld at the Queensland Garden Show next Friday 10 July at 9am. The program helps people thrive at their community gardens.

I'll be in conversation with Morag Gamble from the Permaculture Education Institute and will be supported by my colleague Lizzie from City Farm Nursery!

It's pruning time in Brisbane and in this comprehensive workshop I'll cover all you need to know about improving the vigor and yields of your fruit trees and vines, including citrus, mangoes, avocados, mulberries, stonefruit, tropical pears and grapes.

In the morning we'll learn about how and when flowers and fruit form on different species, and what hand tools to use and when. You'll learn how to sharpen and clean your tools - bring your secateurs - and then we'll get out in the gardens and practice our pruning technique.

I'm taking inspiration from this book, which will be a new title for the Northey Street library. Such beautiful architecture mostly from SE Asia and Brazil that speaks to abundance, connection and resilience - local easy to grow construction materials and with some training can be treated for durability. We have three species of bamboo at the Farm, including Bambusa nigra and B. multiplex which are good for building.
