🔬 Inspiring Science Educators Across Brisbane 🔬
On Tuesday, Craigslea science staff, along with teachers and laboratory technicians from across the Brisbane region, came together for a professional learning opportunity designed to ignite imagination in science classrooms.
Dr Belinda Stumer from Craigslea State High School, in collaboration with Jessica La and Alexandra Wheare from Brisbane South State Secondary College, presented an interactive session exploring how fruit flies can be successfully used in classroom activities across both junior and senior science. This collaboration has been developed throughout this year and last, establishing best practice approaches at both schools.
Brian Stumer also delivered an engaging session demonstrating how fire can be used in the science classroom to inspire curiosity, interest and fascination with science.
Both sessions were very well received, with many attendees from schools beyond Craigslea commenting on the quality of the teaching and presentations. We thank Belinda and Brian, along with Jessica and Alexandra, for sharing their expertise and passion for science with not only Craigslea staff but also colleagues from across the Brisbane region.
We are fortunate to have such passionate and inspiring educators within our Craigslea community who continue to innovate and create engaging learning opportunities for our students.

From Friday 29 May to Sunday 31 May, our Craigslea Volleyball Academy (CVA) athletes proudly represented the school at the Intermediate Schools Cup, competing against some of the strongest volleyball programs from across Queensland and beyond.
Over three days of intense competition, our athletes demonstrated outstanding skill, determination, teamwork and sportsmanship both on and off the court. The tournament provided valuable opportunities for our players to challenge themselves, build confidence and continue developing their game against high-quality opposition.
An achievement worth noting is that Craigslea was the only school to have three of our four honours teams make it to the semi-finals!
Results:
Year 9 boys honours - 2nd 🥈
Year 9 girls honours - 4th
Year 10 boys honours - 4th
Year 10 boys division 1 - 3rd 🥉
We are incredibly proud of every student who competed, supported their teammates, and represented Craigslea with pride and professionalism. Thank you to our coaches, staff, families and supporters who helped make this experience possible.
