FREE! A quick cheat sheet https://www.laurenelgie.com/pl/91178 to help those of you who have a natural breeding on the horizon.
I get calls most weeks from breeders who are faced with challenging situations while breeding their dogs (or other peoples' dogs) and need advice in the moment, on the spot, over the phone - like managing novice stud dogs, inexperienced Broods, or zero progesterone results on hand (Surely not!!...really??)
It is certainly challenging for me to support people during a phone call...but...we always get the job done! 100% strike rate so far with remote Stud Master support! Crazy right?
But I'd like to make it much, much easier for breeders, Service Dog organisation staff (and myself!) by putting together a suite of really useful instructional videos....
So watch this space! Download our "20 Point Checklist - Before Presenting a Stud Dog for Stud Service" here
https://www.laurenelgie.com/pl/91178 to focus your thoughts and we'll automatically drop you an update when our Mini Course "Stud MasterY" goes live....shortly!

When I work with breeding programs, I see optimum results when I support the program in molding a strategic plan that focuses on a multi-layered, very attentive approach.
Breeding a "good dog" to a "good dog" is not a guaranteed approach to generational progress. It's a solid start, don't get me wrong, but breeding is complex... which keeps it interesting!! After all, I've never met a breeding dog that doesn't have at least three weaknesses to counterbalance😉
A few key aspects to focus on, are....
• Strict maintenance of foundation brood lines🌳🌱(the #1 breeding program security blanket! If you do nothing else...focus your attention here!)
• Brood career planning📋... you may not know the name or identity of every stud you'll select for her, but you should have written a profile of the "ideal" stud, including your motivation for seeking that profile. Find the stud to fit her requirements, and seek him out WELL in advance...do not get drawn in to admiring a stud and "finding the fit" or a reason to use him over a brood😉
• Strategic linebreeding and outcrossing💡💡💡Both are essential for maintaining a program with a genetic structure that supports consolidation and progress.
• Insurance of successful lines and critical working traits through semen storage♂️ and puppy retention♀️.
.among many other essential strategies!
A successful breeding program requires strict attention to detail, superb data review, thorough planning, sound understanding of canine genetics, skill and knowledge of how behavioral traits (or health/conformation traits) interact throughout a pedigree. An ability to assess behavioral traits does not translate to being able to breed for improvement of behavioral traits😯
..AND a progressive program is a unique (informed) blend of science and art!! 🔬🎨
Small wins🍾 and continuous improvement is the goal😊
And it's totally within your reach!!👍
