RETIREMENT CONGRATULATIONS // QASSP's Bayside Branch was delighted to present John Bray with a retirement certificate at their recent branch meeting.
Over more than 25 years, John has made his mark on QASSP through service on numerous subcommittees, culminating in four years as Chair of the First Nations Subcommittee. Throughout it all, he has shown genuine dedication to the work and the people it serves.
John, your contribution to QASSP and to Queensland state schooling has meant a great deal to so many. Thank you for everything you have given to our Association and we wish you a wonderfully happy retirement!

COMING TOGETHER IN CAIRNS AND CAPE // 22 members of QASSP's Cairns and Cape Branch came together yesterday for their Term 2 meeting, tackling the hot topics impacting schools and communities across the region.
A highlight of the afternoon was a presentation from Head of Campus Justine Edward, on the North Queensland Youth Alcohol and Other Drugs Residential Service — sharing valuable insights into the support available for young people in our communities.
Thank you to all who attended, contributed to the discussion, and made it such a meaningful professional learning and networking opportunity.

THANKS FOR THE INVITE // President Pat Murphy attended this week’s meeting of QASSP’s Brisbane South Branch hosted by Algester State School. It was gratifying to see a strong mix of principals and middle leaders engaging in professional learning and networking together.
Algester State School proudly showcased their literacy program, with attendees gaining direct line of sight into classrooms where two exceptional teachers demonstrated an impressive array of teaching talents and strategies in action. Tingalpa State School also presented their innovative use of technology to support both staff and students in literacy teaching and learning.
Congratulations to Janine Leach, who was presented with a QASSP Service Award in recognition of her contribution to the branch and to Melissa Provost-Boyle on receiving her 10-year QASSP membership certificate.

CONNECTION AND INFLUENCE //
In our final session, attendees at The School Leadership Conference 2026 have learned from behaviour expert Anthony Laye how attuned thinking and communication can empower and lift leaders to guide their schools toward inspirational breakthroughs. It’s been an action-packed program, and we thank our delegates, speakers on stage and in our break out sessions, business partners and exhibitors, the incredible staff at our venue - the Royal International Convention Centre - and our QASSP team and Conference Committee. We hope to bring you all together again at The School Leadership Conference next year!

LEADING ON THE EDGE // Antarctica expedition leader Rachael Robertson, in this morning’s keynote at The School Leadership Conference 2026, has revealed how she kept her team inspired and productive through the continent’s long, dark winter. Rachael explained how she built a culture of collaboration, integrity and trust with a diverse group of complete strangers. Minister for Education The Hon. John-Paul Langbroek joined us in our second session of the day. He spoke about his Department’s current focus areas and thanked our school leaders for the work they do every day to create brighter futures for the 325,000 students in our state primary schools, their families and communities.
