🍼 Navigating the process of weaning night feeds can raise many questions, such as when and how to do it? Whether it should be gradual or cold turkey? Scheduled or when the baby wakes?

🍼 You may wonder if the same process applies to breastfeeding & bottle feeding?
If the wakings are driven by habit or hunger & whether you should continue to respond with a feed?

🍼 The answers to these questions can be tricky unless you’re looking at the whole picture. If you feel like you’re treading in unknown territory & in need of 1:1 support.

🍼 The decision to begin the transition to wean night feeds should be based on your readiness. Doing what you feel is right for your baby & yourself, is always the most important. It’s okay to hold onto those night feeds if you’re not quite ready to let go. Remember, I am here whenever you need me.

The timing of when to introduce a comforter to your baby may vary depending on your location and the safe sleep guidelines you opt to follow.

🇦🇺 advises waiting until your baby is at least 7 months old before introducing a comforter, ensuring they can move it away from their face if left in their sleep space.

🇺🇸 The - American Academy of Pediatrics suggests excluding any loose bedding, such as comforters or soft toys, from the crib until the baby reaches 12 months of age.

🇬🇧 and NHS provide guidance on safe sleep and they suggest that a baby should not sleep unattended with a comforter until 12 months of age. The safest way for a baby to sleep is in a clear cot.

Regardless of the guideline you choose to adhere to, it is essential to ensure that the comforter does not exceed 30cm X 30cm in size.

☁️ Make sure the comforter does not exceed 30cm X 30cm
☁️ Introduce the comforter during the day while bubs is awake & alert.
☁️ During feeding to hold, play with in the pram sitting upright.
☁️ To help build this bond, you can sleep with in your own bed to get your scent on it.
