Griffith University is thrilled to join key players in the Australian aviation and green hydrogen industries to launch the Hydrogen Flight Alliance (HFA) at Brisbane Airport.

The aim of the alliance is to ensure Australia plays a leading role in the aviation industry’s transition towards net-zero by 2050, and its first mission is to enable Australia’s first commercial emission-free hydrogen-powered flight between Brisbane and Gladstone in 2026.

Queensland icon Johnathan Thurston is co-owner of Skytrans, who will operate the route.

Griffith climate and aviation experts will play key roles in the lead up to this exciting outcome - the sky is the limit!
PARTNERS:
β€’ Stralis Aircraft
β€’ Skytrans Airlines
β€’ Brisbane Airport
β€’ Gladstone Airport
β€’ Aviation Australia
β€’ BOC

In 2021, the International Air Transport Association released a plan for airlines to achieve net-zero carbon by 2050. New research led by Griffith University experts shows sustainable aviation fuel is not a silver bullet. Even if the industry could make the shift, there’s not enough land or renewable energy potential on Earth to produce all the sustainable fuels airlines need ✈️
