Directed by Kane Parsons and released by A24 on May 29, 2026, Backrooms is a psychological sci-fi horror film adapting his viral YouTube creepypasta into a cinematic triumph. Written by Will Soodik and produced alongside James Wan and Shawn Levy on a ten million dollar budget, the movie grossed over two hundred million dollars worldwide during its initial theatrical run. The narrative centers on Clark, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, a failed architect who discovers a glowing, mysterious doorway hidden in the basement of his furniture showroom. Upon stepping through, he instantly “no-clips” out of reality and becomes trapped inside an infinite, maze-like dimension defined exclusively by sickly yellow wallpaper, damp carpets, and the ceaseless hum of fluorescent lights. As Clark becomes deeply obsessed with exploring this eerie labyrinth and vanishes, his therapist, Dr. Mary Kline, portrayed by Renate Reinsve, ventures into the unknown space on a desperate rescue mission. Accompanied by Clark’s assistant Kat and her boyfriend Bobby, Mary navigates an ever-shifting environment that mirrors her own buried childhood trauma and fading memories. The group soon realizes that the endless corridors are populated by terrifying, distorted entities known as Still Lifes, most notably a lanky physical threat dubbed “Pirate Clark,” brought to life through stunning practical effects by seven-foot-seven former basketball player Robert Bobroczkyi. Rather than relying on standard jump scares, Parsons utilizes a massive physical set to craft an atmospheric dread that captures the uncanny scale of the original internet lore. The space functions as a memory graveyard, consuming Clark into a monstrous doppelganger and leaving Mary trapped within its infinite loops. Highly applauded by critics for its claustrophobic production design and an impressive eighty-eight percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film concludes on an ambiguous cliffhanger involving the enigmatic Async corporation, leaving audiences highly anticipating an announced sequel.

Whether you know it as a psychedelic surf-rock masterpiece or the soundtrack to a certain yellow sponge’s cinematic debut, “Ocean Man” by Ween is one of those rare tracks that has transcended its era to become a permanent fixture of internet culture. Released in 1997 on the album The Mollusk, the song is a swirling, salt-crusted voyage into the surreal, blending childlike wonder with a distinctly trippy, nautical aesthetic.
The Genesis of a Cult Classic
“Ocean Man” was born from the eccentric minds of Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo—better known as Gene and Dean Ween. Recorded in a rented beach house on the Jersey Shore, the song captures the duo’s fascination with the sea, a recurring theme throughout The Mollusk.

Ketchup is a smooth, thick, and sweet-savory condiment. Modern versions are primarily made from tomatoes, vinegar, sugar, and a blend of spices like onion powder, garlic, and celery salt.
• Flavor Profile: It leads with a bright sweetness followed by a tangy acidity from the vinegar. It is rich in umami, which makes it a universal crowd-pleaser for balancing salty foods.
• Texture: Glossy, uniform, and highly viscous (thick).
• Best For: Fries, burgers, and as a base for barbecue sauces.
Mustard
Mustard is a sharp, pungent condiment made from the seeds of the mustard plant. The seeds are cracked or ground and mixed with water, vinegar, or wine to create a paste.
• Flavor Profile: It ranges from mild and earthy to intensely spicy and nasal-clearing. Unlike ketchup’s sweetness, mustard is defined by its bitterness and heat.
• Common Varieties:
• Yellow: Mild, very tangy, and bright in color due to turmeric.
• Dijon: Smooth, creamy, and sharp, often made with white wine.
• Wholegrain: Coarse texture with a popping sensation from the intact seeds.
• Best For: Hot dogs, sandwiches, pretzels, and vinaigrettes.
