🔎What is Anzac Day and why is it celebrated?
Anzac Day, held annually on April 25th, is a national day of commemoration in Australia and New Zealand marking the anniversary of the 1915 Gallipoli landing. It honours the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served in WWI, now commemorating all who served in war and peace operations.
Key Details of ANZAC Day:
🔴The Meaning: It is a time for national reflection, recognizing both the sacrifices of the over 103,000 Australians who died in war and the 111th anniversary of the landing.
🔴Significance: It marks the first major military action for Australian/NZ forces in WWI.
🔴Symbols: Rosemary, which grows wild on the Gallipoli peninsula, is a traditional symbol of remembrance worn on the day.
🔴Events: Commemorations include solemn Dawn Services, national memorial services, and marches by veterans and their families.
