As a foster carer, educator and advocate for trauma and healing, I need you to hear this.

When you need to apologise, your words used in your apology, is to validate the other person's feelings.
'I see you are upset', 'I'm sorry I didn't do...'
Then state how you can fix the problem/event.

What you must never do is say 'BUT'.
When you put a 'BUT' into your apology, no matter your level of regret, it will totally negate your apology.
A 'BUT' in your apology has removed your ownership and responsibility of your mistake.

If this is a new concept for you, it will take practice, but remember key to healthy relationships is to hear, own and repair your errors with no conditions of a 'BUT' ❤
