I’ve been noticing something over the last few years.

The more women I speak to about building their homes, the more I hear the same stories.

Different builders.
Different homes.
Different women.

But somehow… so many of the same experiences.

Being spoken over.
Being underestimated.
Being expected to just trust the process.
And encountering attitudes towards women that feel like they belong in another era.

And I think it’s time we talked about it.

We are looking for women who have built, are building who are willing to share their experience (builder remaining anonymous)

We'll be featuring selected women, their homes and their stories through Abeaud.

With opportunities to showcase your fav products, design choices and details that made your home uniquely yours.

Because this isn’t about finding fault.

It’s about listening to women, sharing what we’ve learned and making the building experience better for the women who come after us.

If you have a story to tell, we'd love to hear it.

PRACTICAL COMPLETION INSPECTION
Your PCI isn't a formality. It's your last real shot at leverage in gettings defects fixed.

Once you sign, that's it. Your build will be deemed as 'complete' and is off the clock (building time frame).

Waterproofing. Roof cavity. Seals around every door and window. The stuff that disappears under paint and carpet and gets expensive fast if it's wrong.

Bring your own checklist to your PCI and don't just rely on your builder.

Building a home will introduce you to your neighbours. Learn how to get off to a great start. https://www.abeaud.com.au/blogs/news/how-to-manage-neighbours-during-your-build

Most neighbours mean well. But your build only has one decision-maker: you.

One of the smartest things you can do before construction even begins is set clear, friendly boundaries. A simple conversation at the start can save awkward situations, mixed messages and unnecessary stress later.

In my latest blog, I share:
• Why neighbours often become invested in your build
• The difference between being helpful and overstepping
• A simple script you can use to set expectations early
• How to keep your neighbours informed while staying firmly in control

Building a home is about more than managing your builder. It's about managing the environment around your build too.

Ladies ladies ladies❗ Your builder is NOT going to hand you a defect-spotting manual when you're building.

You're expected to just know., orr trust your builder to tell you.

Spoiler: they won't.

A defect is work that doesn't match your plans, fails Australian Standards, or just isn't done properly.

Not vibes. Not "that's normal." An actual standard.

What to look for on your next site visit.

👉 Defects. Cracked tiles. Doors that stick. Paint applied badly. Gaps where there shouldn't be any.

👉 Inconsistencies. Check every window size, every ceiling height, every structural change you asked for against your actual plans. Not your memory.

👉 Non-compliant work. Doesn't meet the Australian Standards, no matter what the plans show.

👉 Incomplete items. Missing hardware. Unfinished sealant. Inclusions you paid for that never showed up.

🔨 You don't need to be a builder to catch this.

You need to know what you're looking at and stop second-guessing yourself when something feels off.

🔥 Walk in prepared. Find your states guides under our 'Resources' page. https://www.abeaud.com.au/collections/resources

For the past three years, after building and after losing my husband - I've been writing a guidebook on building that I wished I'd had before I built my own home.

Building is already stressful enough - confusing, overwhelming and incredibly expensive when you don't know what you don't know.

Every chapter is built from real experiences, real lessons and countless hours of research, so you can make informed decisions before they become costly mistakes.

Standing on stage and sharing this vision reminded me why I started Abeaud in the first place.

I want every woman - and every family - building a home to feel informed, confident and in control.

The book is nearly here, and I genuinely can't wait to put it into your hands.

🖤 Home Cleansing Ritual 🖤
Building a home involves many different people and each of them brings their own energy to site.

Sometimes great and sometimes not so great. Negative energies tend to get stuck and embed themselves into your slab, into your frames, into whatever there is to hold on to.

To give your build the best possible chance at moving forward with ease, perform this mini ritual whenever you feel the negative shift on site.

✨ THE RITUAL: Cleansing Your Build Site

What you need:
🧹 A sage bundle or palo santo stick or even incense
🧹 Something fireproof to catch ash (an abalone shell, a small dish)
🧹 A feather or your hand to guide the smoke
Matches/lighter

✨ THE STEPS

✨ Stand at the site's entrance. Wherever the front door will be, or the boundary you first walked onto the block. This is your starting point.
✨ Light it and let it breathe. Sage should smoulder, not flame. Blow out any fire so it's smoking, not burning.
✨ Walk the perimeter clockwise. Move slowly. Let the smoke drift into the corners, not just the centre. Corners hold stagnant energy, builders will tell you that's where the wind does something strange too.
Say it out loud or you can say it with intention.
🖤 "I release the old energy here and welcome the good."
Finish where you started. Close the loop. Let the last of the smoke rise before you ground it out.

Give yourself the best start and build on land that you have cleansed.

If you're building a home, you'll need to know more about your Practical Completion Inspection.
https://www.abeaud.com.au/blogs/news/your-practical-completion-inspection

👉 Our builder handed us a leaflet before our Practical Completion Inspection and called it good enough. 🙃
🔨 No walkthrough.
🔨 No "here's what to actually look for."
🔨 No explanation of why this inspection is the moment that decides whether you live with problems for years, or catch them before you sign anything.

And honestly, why would they want you good at spotting defects? That's not exactly in their interest.

👉 New blog is up now, plus the PCI Checklist is available - it walks you through room by room.

Every home begins with a hole in the ground.

Before the walls. Before the kitchen. Before the keys.

There's dust, delays, decisions and moments where you'll wonder if it'll ever be finished.

But one day that construction site becomes the place your kids grow up. Where birthdays happen. Where you finally exhale and think... we made it.

Whatever stage you're at, don't lose sight of why you started. The hard days are temporary.
The home you're building could last a lifetime.

Everyone talks about the contract price.

Very few people talk about what comes after you've signed it.

Most budget blowouts don't happen because people are careless. They happen because they're making dozens of decisions without seeing the full financial picture.

A variation here.
A lighting upgrade there.
A better tile.
A retaining wall you didn't expect.
Another admin fee.

Before long, you've spent another $20,000 - and you're wondering where it went.

The more informed you are before making each decision, the more control you'll have over your budget.

Abeaud was built on the idea that building a home shouldn't feel like losing yourself in the process.

Practical where it needs to be.
Soft where it counts.

🖤A little bit witchy, a lot bit determined.

This is the energy behind every checklist, every blog post, every "wait, is that normal?" answer we give you.

Grounded, considered, unbothered by the chaos.
Women don't just build houses. We build sanctuaries.
Welcome to Abeaud. 🖤
