Impact of COVID-19 on the SEQ Music Industry 12/07/2022

Hello to all Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Ipswich musos!

We are a group of researchers supervised by Dr Sébastien Darchen (University of Queensland), Dr John Willsteed and Yanto Browning (Queensland University of Technology). We are seeking insight from local musicians and industry workers as to how the pandemic has affected individuals' working life, role within the industry, livelihood and creative decisions.

The project seeks to examine the effect of the COVID-19 on a variety of professionals from the music industry in the South East Queensland area. Currently, we are looking to identify strategies that will support the music industry through analysing the impact of recent COVID-19 policies which were created to sustain the future of the SEQ music industry. This includes both places for music production (e.g,: studio environments) and places for live events (both nightclubs and spaces for live events in the Valley precinct, Greater Brisbane and the South East). Responses will be used to influence policies and access to funding in the future.

The project was initiated by the urban planning group within the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES) at UQ. This study adheres to the Guidelines of the ethical review process of The University of Queensland and the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (Research Ethics ID number: 2021/HE001940).
