Let’s increase our JOY factor! 🌞

We only need to look at children to realise how much fun and joy they are usually carrying around in their little bodies but as adults, we seem to rarely have this energy!

So, what is ONE thing you can do today (or this weekend) to increase your joy? Here’s some ideas…

🌞 Explore somewhere new with NO agenda or set plan
🌞 Dance like no one is watching
🌞 Treat yourself to your favourite drink or food
🌞 Colour in
🌞 Curl up and read for 10 minutes
🌞 Give someone (or yourself) a giant hug
🌞 Sing LOUDLY to your favourite song
🌞 Call or text a favourite human to tell them that you adore them

What will you do for yourself? I am going to explore the Mind Body Spirit Festival Australia today with no agenda, plan or hurry - just for my own enjoyment!

What does self-care mean to you? 💐

‘Self-care’ has become a real buzzword in the past few years. It’s easy to see why. Living through a global pandemic, having busier-than-ever schedules and being constantly thrown into a state of comparison and stress thanks to social media and societal standards has meant that taking good care of ourselves is more important than ever before.

To me, self-care looks like:

🌷 Taking tiny chances each day to meditate or sit in stillness
🌷 Breathing in deeply, all the way down to my belly
🌷 Having boundaries
🌷 Feeling the warm sun on my skin for a couple of minutes each day
🌷 Occasionally having fresh flowers in the house (my fav!)

We are going to be discussing all things ‘self-care’ at our Happy Heart Collective February Event ‘Self-Care Made Simple’ on the 28th of February. We have an amazing panel of speakers, delicious food, beautiful company and even a free glass of Prosecco (yep, we are into treating ourselves and you!). This one got me straight in the heart. The incredible Brené Brown is full of wisdom like this, but today this quote stuck out at me like a strike of lightning. ⚡️

As women (and humans, let’s be real), we can often feel like we aren’t enough. I know I’ve felt (and have also been made to feel) inadequate at times due to my non-linear career, lack of qualifications and/or knowledge, and purpose. But guess what? Those things can be learned and changed. You know what cannot be easily changed? WHO we are at our core.

What I know is that I am kind, open-minded, non-judgemental, compassionate, empathetic, brave and helpful. Today, that is what I will choose to focus on.

Who are you deep down? Be proud of that. I hope you can remember that external things like career, finances, knowledge, skills and purpose can grow, be tweaked, be learned and be changed. 🫶

Not loving certain things about your daily life? 𝗬𝗢𝗨 have the power to change it, my friend. 💪🏻 Give yourself permission to reflect and then reset!⁣

Sometimes the most simple changes and tweaks make the biggest difference to our lives. ☺️ ⁣

I’ve been feeling a bit time poor lately, so am trying to tweak my day by just waking up 15 minutes earlier so that I can feel more relaxed in the morning! ☀️⁣

Relaxing meditation 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗟!🧘‍♀️🐶🤦🏻‍♀️⁣

Sometimes even our best plans for self-care are interrupted or need to be completely thrown out the window and that can be a little … frustrating! 😩⁣

What I’ve learned is to just take a deep breath and roll with it - so while Ernest jumped up and ignored my need for ‘me time’, instead of being grumpy about it, I just enjoyed a little snuggle and photo shoot with him instead. ⁣

Did I end up actually doing my meditation that day? Nope. But it sure did make me happy just relaxing with my doggy for a few funny minutes and maybe what I really needed was that cuddle anyway! 💗⁣

I guess sometimes life throws us exactly what we need! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣🥰⁣

Is it really only mid-January? 🤯😂⁣

Though I’m just being a bit cheeky with the “half-dead” part of this post, the exhaustion of the last two years is very, very real. Are you feeling a little weary and worn out too? 🙋‍♀️⁣

A little tip I learned it from one of the very best Julie Parker is to ask yourself this question…⁣

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄 (𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 / 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄 / 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸)?⁣

Right now, I want to feel 𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙘! ⚡️⁣

So, once you’ve identified that feeling you’d like to harness, think of a couple of simple ways you can bring that feeling into being. ☑⁣

For example - I want to feel energetic, so I may go for a walk out in the fresh air, or have a 10 minute boogey to my favourite three songs, or eat a delicious piece of fresh and juicy fruit, or make sure I’m drinking two litres of water. 🚶💃🍏🚰⁣
