Casual School Crossing Supervisor 🚸

• Pay Rate $33.27 per hour.
• A School Crossing Supervisor must be able to work in all-weather conditions
• Up to 1 hour 30 mins per day – on a rotational basis.
• Relief opportunities on your rostered days off.

Commencement of employment for the successful applicant is dependent on:

• The favourable outcome of a health assessment
• A Positive Notice Blue Card (you do not need to have a blue card to apply for the position).

Bilby Day & Endangered Species Day
Gold coin donation for Save the Bilby Fund
Student Council members will be at the Memorial Gates, Roseby Avenue before school today to collect the gold coins. They will also visit classrooms for those who don’t enter the school via the front gates.

If you are new to EJ, you might wonder why do we celebrate this day & what is the significance.

In 2010, one of our EJ students passed away. Luke Curnow was his name & he has left a legacy to this school. Luke was passionate about saving the Bilby. He wanted to make a difference for them to survive rather than to become extinct. His passion for helping endangered Australian animals has been passed to us & he has shown us that one person can make a difference, no matter how small or how young.

Each year we remember Luke, we celebrate this very special day, we raise money for the Save the Bilby Fund & we come together as a school to learn more about endangered animals & through our Student Council we learn what we can make a difference together.

EJSS will be holding a special Bilby & Endangered Species assembly on today. Prep-Year 3 students will attend & are asked to be in full school uniform for the special assembly (tartan shirts, EJSS jumpers, white/EJSS socks & clean black shoes). Our junior choir will also be performing.

The final night of the Senior Primary School Choirs were the perfect way to end the 2023 Queensland Youth Music Awards. These choirs were all fantastic & should be very proud of their performances.

🥇 Vocal Ensemble • Gold Award 🥇
EJ’s Vocal Ensemble competed in the Primary Division of the Queensland Youth Music Awards (QYMA) Competition last night.

Our Vocal Ensemble were awarded GOLD. 👏

CONGRATULATIONS to our Vocal Ensemble for their extra hard work & for the way in which the represented EJ with excellence. MANY THANKS to our outstanding conductor, Mrs Christine Shume & her accompanists, Mrs Lorna Sue (ex-EJ music teacher) & Ms Karyn Harry.

We were also delighted to have Ms Jo Bottrell, former EJ Principal (pictured below), hosting last night’s event. 💙

ANZAC DAY
EJSS Memorial Gates & Memorial Library
The EJSS Memorial Gates were constructed as a memorial to past students & teachers who had served in World War One.

Designed by Evan Smith, the gates were officially opened on the 22 November 1924 by the Governor of Queensland, Sir Matthew Nathan. The memorial was provided largely from funds subscribed to by parents and those interested in the school.

The EJSS Memorial Library commemorates those who served in World Wars One & Two.

The library was designed by architect Mr R Ashley Shaw. Two classrooms in the original school were remodelled for its construction. A stained glass memorial window was included & was made by Leadlights Pty Ltd. Mr Justice Mansfield officially opened the library on 21 May 1949.

“The beautiful stained glass window, measuring 6 ft. 3 in. by 3 ft., will soon be erected in the Eagle Junction State School Memorial Library as a tribute to past students who served in both World Wars. Designed by Mr. R. Myles, of Leadlights Pty. Ltd., it contains approximately 1,500 separate pieces of glass.”

Jordan Donald (U15 Boys) played in the Queensland Maroon side which won the Australian Under 15 Indoor Hockey Championship last week. Jordan was the boys’ top goal scorer with 18.

Cameron Strickland, who played in the Queensland boys’ Gold team, finished in fifth position.
