In 30+ years of practice, I have watched something quietly repeat itself.
Adults come in with chronic illness, anxiety, autoimmune flares, gut issues that started long before anyone could explain them. And when I trace the timeline back far enough, I often find the same thing. Not a virus. Not a toxin. A household where something between the parents was never resolved.

Children do not just witness a relationship. They absorb it. The nervous system of a child is still being built by the emotional field around it, and that field becomes template. Coherence between parents reads to a child's body as safety. Tension that never resolves reads as threat, low grade and constant, for years.

This is why I care so much about the idea of asymmetry between men and women. It is not really about roles. It is about whether the emotional architecture of a home is stable enough for a nervous system to develop in peace.

Most of my patients were never in danger as children. Their bodies just never got the signal that it was safe to stop bracing.
