Stimming is purposeful.
It can be part of exploring and learning how to communicate with an AAC device. It can play a key role in helping AAC users familiarize themselves with an AAC app or device and their functionality.
ID: The image features a light purple background with a large dark purple quotation mark symbol at the top. Beneath it is a prominent block of text in dark purple font, which reads: “Don’t assume repeated button tapping means someone is not ready for AAC. Stimming is deeply functional. Children and adults alike may stim while working through new ideas and concepts — like how to communicate with an AAC device!”. The bottom right of the image illustrates an AAC device grid. A hand is shown tapping one of the buttons on the screen. The AssistiveWare logo is in the bottom left corner.

Please support my friend Sammie’s amazing book ‘The day I met the Feelingtons’, now available to purchase on Amazon. This incredible handbook was designed to support individuals with strategies to self-regulate 👏🏻 Sammie is a fun-loving, creative, supportive, unique and inclusive educator who is kind of amazing at drawing stuff! She has used her special gifts to make a positive impact on the lives of neurodiverse individuals and their families ❤️ Would love to see many more people supporting a fantastic resource! Donate to your school library, gift to a family member/ friend or even a teacher for their own resource collection! 📚
