I've been thinking about a phrase that followed me for years:
"There has to be more than this."
And if I'm honest, I wasn't asking for more from life.
I was asking why my life didn't feel the way I thought it was supposed to feel.
I was unhappy.
I was struggling in my job.
I was struggling in my relationship.
I was struggling in my life.
And yet, from the outside, everything looked... fine.
I had the well-paying corporate job.
I had the loving husband.
I had the beautiful children.
The mortgage.
The life I'd spent years building.
So every time that whisper came up —
"There has to be more than this."
—I felt guilty.
Ungrateful.
Ashamed.
Because surely if your life looks good on paper, you're supposed to be happy.
Right?
I spent years thinking there was something wrong with me.
That everyone else had somehow figured out how to do life, and I'd missed the lesson.
But that whisper never really went away.
Looking back now, I don't think it was asking for a different life.
I think it was asking for a different relationship with my life.
I think it was the part of me that knew I couldn't keep abandoning myself and expect to feel alive.
And perhaps that's why the whisper kept returning.
Not because it was trying to make me unhappy.
But because it was trying to lead me home.
I've been wondering lately...
Has there ever been a thought, a feeling, or a knowing that has followed you through different seasons of your life?
Something you couldn't quite explain, but couldn't quite ignore either?
